Default Cat back exhaust question

I got a question for the pros. I'm egtting a new exhaust piping, and I notice allot of people are doing the straight back pipe that goes under the axle then angles out. Won't this lose low end torque? Whats the best piping to be done, staright back and angle it out, or follow the bends like stock? if this makes sense to anyone.

One bend (or lack thereof) in your exhaust piping isn't going to do much to your torque curve unless it's 180 degrees. The aftermarket companies know their ****: follow their example with the routing of your exhaust piping and you'll be happy .

I have a Tanabe catback, but I just notice everyone is doing this angled up thing now, so I figure either its for looks or it performs.

it's for looks. If they really wanted it for performance, they'd have the piping come straight out after the cat and then bend to have the muffler exit at an angle under the bumper hole. Only one bend in that setup. The piping would get scraped to **** on the street, though.

not when it's done the mass marketed way. It's just for looks.

as i said, it will work as intended when the piping under the car looks like this: ____/ Not when it follows the OEM exhaust piping pattern. i mean, you'll still gain something either way, but the angled muffler was due to the design of the piping, as shown in my neat drawing.
