You should bleed the entire system if your fluid is dirty, or you dontt change it regularly. The best fluid to use is Honda or Ford DOT 3 or DOT 4 fluid. Everyone says such great things about Motul, but if you're not going to the track w/ your car, don't bother with it. It's meant for higher temps, and not for everyday street driving.

Motul 600, Ford Heavy Duty, ATE SuperBlue or ATE Type 200 (same fluid, different colors), Castrol SRF.

The Ford is the cheapest. The Castrol is expensive. The ATE and Motul are in the middle. The nice thing about the ATE is you can alternate colors, so you can easily tell when system is bled.

I use Motul or ATE in my race and street cars.

The Ford has the lowest wet boiling point of the above, meaning it needs more frequent bleeding. The Castrol SRF has the highest wet boil point, explaining its high cost. The Motul is 2nd best. The ATE is third, but still way better than the Ford.

If you're car never see the track, the Ford is a good choice. Be sure to ask for the Heavy Duty fluid - the regular stuff is not nearly as good.

great info guys. i appreciate the help. as for the motul, if i did a full flush, how many bottles of the 5.1 would i need? on inlinefour.com's website, it says that i can mix it with other synthetic brake fluids. i plan to frequent the tracks during the weekends so, this might be the stuff i want to use. pretty expensive at $10 a bottle.
