Type R tranny installed, now there's a distinct harmonic hum...
Yeah, I'm kinda new here but I know some people here including my cousin (from ClubSi). I got some questions, and will have more questions when I install my vortech so I figure I minus well start asking people that know more **** for help.
Here's the deal, I installed a type R tranny into my 99' Si over the weekend. Everything runs great and I love it, but I noticed after installing it that there was a very distinct harmonic hum coming from left side of my engine bay. I've never had this sound before, and it is definatly coming from the left side. More specificly its either coming from the tranny or the intake (because those are both in the same location of where the sound is loudest).
Here's the weird thing, the sound is constant and same no matter what rpm I'm at, what gear i'm in, or anything for that matter. Has anyone ever heard of something like this? I guess the only way to explain this sound is that it sounds like the whistle tips from Oakland (Bubb Rubb style). Its not as high pitched as that, but its definitly has that wooooooooooooooooooo sound. (It sounds corny, but its the only way i can think of to describe its pitch).
Is there anything I should be worried about? Like I said before car runs great, haven't experienced any problems yet. Any insight would be much apreciated.

I have this same problem with my stock D16Z6 tranny. I'm not sure if it's cuz I have some grinded gears or if there's a problem with my axles or CV's.
I'm going to have my axles and CV's looked over and see if they're worn out. If that's not the culprit, then it's gotta be something inside the tranny...I guess.

could be bad mainshaft bearings. That was my problem. It sounded like the car was in reverse when I was driving foward.
damn... is it even worth it to rebuild the tranny because of this problem or should I just let it break? What happens if I leave this?
