Will a 91 LS Tranny fit ANY LSD??? I cant find any straight answers.... Which one works..
I know the 92 93 trannys are different (IE able to use ITR LSD) , but will a 90 91 USDM LS tranny hold one of the LSDs from one of those crap JDM cable trannies? (s1, etc...)
I cant find any straight answers on the board...

y1 has anoptional lsd from japan , i had 1 the gearing kinda sucked i thought 4 NA. Hoped that helped.Factory lsd's suck anywayz
It will -definatly- hold a y1 cable LSD. But you have to use the y1 countershaft as well, since the y1 lsd has a 4.266 final drive. Your LS trans has a 4.4 final. The ring gear is not swappable.
damn... So the whole countershaft needs to come out... i have an s1 sitting in the garage with junk synchros... i think that has the 4.266 final drive as well.. anything else i should know before ripping everything apart? thanks for the good info...
Well, my old S1 and J1 both had 4.4 final drives. The only way to tell is to count the teeth on the differential, the countershafts all have 15 teeth. If its got 64 teeth on the diff, then its a 4.266 final. 66 teeth, and its a 4.4 final. If your S1 trans does indeed have a 4.266, then you can definatly use that countershaft. I would guess against it though.
if you would do a search, you would see that last month i tried to use a 91 ls gear and synchro set to replace the 3rd gear crushed one in my 91 s1 tranny - NO FIT
if you look on the quaife site, you will see that nearly all b series lsd cable type diffs are interchangeable

try 88-91 single cam tranny synchros, i'll be doing it as soon as funds become available!

if you go ahead with that, can you please post a reference as to whether that works? i think a lot of people, including me have been in that boat. i went out and found a usdm 92 gsr ys1 tranny (thank god!), the speedo gear ring does NOT seem interchangeable with the jdm s1 - it does not fit so will swap over the ys1 piece going on to the quaife i am putting in.
Ill be ripping the LS trans apart next week... Ill definately post when im finished... Im sure if I couldnt find the info, there are others as well...
I think youre right about the final drive gear as well... the s1, according to a few tranny spec sites, has the 4.4 final drive....
Keeping my fingers crossed here.....

from where did you get the synchros for the ys1? and how much did you pay for them? i have a gsr ys1 in need of a rebuild, but honda wants too much money for synchros!

my bad, the ys1 tranny was in perfect shape - i gave up on the s1 with too much damage. evidently the quaife i am trying to put in the ys1 is the xxxx.180 and not the xxxx.160 and that's why it won't fit.
have you tried http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.net, or maybe the Baranca (sp?) Acura people - if you do a search, they were just complemented on their prices & service

According to the Helms, the '90 integra transmission has a final ratio of 4.400...
Can anyone answer my following question...I just got a JDM J1 cable tranny in great shape which I will be using for my '90 integra and want to put in a Quaife ATB differential instead of the stock open unit. Part number 60.309.155 (88-99 Civic Si/EX with 40mm bearings) is the correct differential I should use, right? I've also been looking on line at the various JDM LSD units available and am wondering if the EK9 Civic Type R LSD would work in a J1 cable tranny.
As far as the gear ratios on the J1 cable tranny, the following is what I got from counting the gear teeth lastnight:
1st - 3.250
2nd - 2.053
3rd - 1.417
4th - 1.103
5th - 0.906
Reverse - 3.000
Final - 4.400

last i check in their website, they did have an application for the jdm cable trannies.

ok, here goes 60.309.160 which is the 4th Honda listing from the bottom for cable b series (which would include jdm)
Im NOT speaking from personal experience, but i seem to recall the the 92-93 cable gsr trannies hold the JDM 4.4 ITR final drive LSDs, as apposed to the y1 JDM LSDs.. again this isnt personal experience, so someone please verify this...

Ok... i ripped the tranny open today... and:
The Y1 LSD fits great! However- its not an obvious replacement... The ring gears ARE swappable, but the ring gear must be bolted in from the opposite side of the stock dif. Also, the bolts from the Y1 LSD MUST be used - the stock bolts are reverse thread!
To be completely clear - Y1 LSD. Using the LS tranny ring gear. 4.4 Final drive.. Nothing from the countershaft needs to be swapped.. When its done, the bolts have about 1mm clearance from the 5th (??) gear.. (they stick up a tiny bit farther than the ring gear itself) Ill post pics when i unload the camera...
Hope this helps anyone whos been looking for this info!

good insight, specially on noticeing that the stock fd bolts are reverse thread! the clearance you notice should be on first gear, and not on fitht! good work, will be waiting on pictures!
