b21a w/ gsr head? need advice!
Alright... you'll have to forgive me as I am usually in the civic or tech forums. I'm wondering if this combination would work and there's not much coming up in the search. A friend of mine has a '91 prelude with a b21a and the valves are going bad, needs a timing belt change, et cetera... So for the money, it would probably be worth it to throw down $450 bucks or so for a GSR head if it would fit. The only other thread I found said that an H22 head would fit? Also that a b16/b18 head would not fit? What? Help me understand here, guys. I'm going to end up helping do this swap if it happens, so I'd like to know what I'm getting into. Your help is appreciated.
Tell your buddy not to waste his time. Tell him to go pick up a JDM B20A. Much easier swap and more reliable than the B21/vtec head swap will ever be.
Oh and the entire H22 motor will fit in his car.

the h series wont fit on the b series. my friends got a b20/vtec he just put together. he bought a kit from a local custom shop. he used a b16 head on the b20. the gsr has a 2 stage vtec along with a different cooling issue. anyways. best of luck.

The entire H22? Wow... that would be hot, considering the weight of car. I know I'd have to make an engine harness adapter, but how about the motor mounts? And did you mean that we could bolt on a b20a head without modification? I know the only difference between the b20 and b21 is the piston size. I think it would be preferable to just replace the head, since the block is still in good shape. Thanks again for the advice.
there is definitely such a thing as dual stage vtec. It is a feature on b18 heads that has an extra intake butterly for high rpms. look in archived content.

Ok well i dont know about the b16/17/18...BUT the h22 doenst have dual stage vtec..Only thing i can imagine you would be talking about is the fact that the vtec system has a vtec "IN" and "OUT" or that h22s have secondary butterfly mani (secondary opens up at 4400 rpm, nothing to do with the 5200 rpm vtec activation).
Since the block is fine in your friends car....you can go to a junk yard and pick up a stock head for a dime a dozen pretty much. Also the h22 requires a mount kit, axles, new shift linkage, engine harness, and ecu harness....all of which is made by Place Racing in cali...read my sig to get a idea about place.
