I am not a fan of in dash eq's personally, but if you must you can tap into the power and ground from the HU. The eq will not consume much current. What do you need a preamp for? The crossover can be powered off the same run as your amp.

The components you listed don't need much power so you can grab power anywhere.

mount your crossover next to your amp, you'll only need 2*(however many channels you are running on your amp) extra rca's. Basically, set it up just like if you had just and amp, then run the remote turn on lead to the crossover, and the rca's into the crossover then to the amp. Get a distribution block for the power, and make sure you ground both the amp and the xo.

thanks..
ok..for the in-dash eq....
id make my friend do the technical stuff but all id need is an rca to go in it, and then a separate one to go to the amp?
then we just power it, and ground it/

for the crossover now, i just need rca's to go into the crossover, then another set to plug into the amp?
so the speakers would still be connected to the amp?

my friend is a proffesional installer but i feel smarter going to him with all wires and **** needed instead of pissin him off with stupid questions

so, basically i should buy a bunch of rca's and 16 gauge wire?

distribution block? is that the little gold thing i see him with, that he plugs 2 amps and has 0awg going into? in his set up?

if it is do i have to do it like that? crossover would need 8awg power?
if so id just run straight to batt. any benefits from a dis. block other than ease of installation?

i dont mind runing wire through the car, i love pullin it up

ok, so ill run the rca's on the right side of the car, the power wires on the left, does the remote wire matter? should i run that in the middle as to avoid noise?

and i want to shiled the rca's from any fuel pump noise so im thinking right down the side of the car and come out by the back...so its nowhere near the pump, 12 foot rca should work...

now you see why i'd annoy my friend withh al these questions!

ok, so basically the in-dash eq just needs power the same as the h/u...remote wire...and rca's in and out?
the crossover just needs rca's in and out and power and ground just like an amp, speakers run off the amp just the same?

thanks

You need two sets of short rca's plus the long set to go to the rear of your car. One short set from deck to eq, long set from eq to xo, then short set to amp.

Remember the whole thing about having fuses? The distribution block has another fuse in it. You should have one near your battery as well.

I always just ran the remote with the rca's... I don't think it matters considering the low power of the signal going through the remote lead. If you're really conserned with it, go ahead and put it in the middle.

thanks man
its much simpler than i thought

why arent you a fan of in-dash eq's vteg?
the reason i wanted one was for my madf speakers im running off the h/u...
i figured i could take out the bass or whatever so they'd sound better...
i can run speaks from the eq right?
how would that affect the rest of the speakers if i turn down the bass? can i run a separate eq just for the mids? i see speaker wires in the back of the eq...would i connect these to the radio? no, that wouldnt make sense...

id run the speakers directly from the eq then?

oh man i dont mean to be a pain but my friend will beat me up if i ask him these things while hes installing my stuff(installers don't really like that)

ok, so im thinking of a pyle crossover and a boss eq....not the cheapest but definately not the best...
ive always figured i can go cheap on them cause tyhe sound is perfect for me now, with my toyo speakers, that i just figure hey 'they cant make it sound WORSE now can they?'
can they? other choices are sound barrier, power acoustik etc etc....

It goes against my idea of simple systems

Many of my friends have had them at one time or other. Most of the time they don't know how to use them, and there are not enough bands of adjustment. Generally music sounds worse. Plus it is another opportunity for noise to enter the system. For most people subwoofer level control is more useful than an eq. Many seem to use it to boost bass.

But this is just my opinion. My hu has 5 band parametric built in with adjustable center frequencies. I have not used it yet.

hm, i wouldnt be using it to boost bass, more like to cut it down easier!!!
some time the bass hits so hard by the time i find the bass control in the damn h/u its too late....
i also wanted to take the bass out of my mids...
still need to know how and if i can run a separate eq just for mids while running amps separate...

but i cant see how it will make it sound worse, as i said the bass is more than enough, the sq could be a little better at high volumes though, thats why im gonna try these...

any comments on the units i mentioned?

To take bass out of your mids you need to adjust crossover points.

If I remember correctly your mids were in your dash. Try a 24db hp at 100 to the dash speakers and cross the subs at the same freq for the subs. Lowpass of course.

If you use the standard 80 hp crossover point, with 6 or 12db per octave you can get a lot of bass to your midranges. If you current crossver does not have it make sure your new one can do 24db per octave.

Proper crossover settings will help you more at high volume that the eq will
