Fuel Pump?
Is there any way to check a fuel pump. I have a GSR fuel pump in my 91 CRX HF and I'm not sure if it's going bad. My car sputters like hell at low throttle 10-20% and is fine when you mash down the gas. What could this be? I've been fighting this problem for almost 2 weeks now. Could it be timimg? I put new MSD wires on it and it ran even worse and it has a brand new cap too. Im using a 2nd gen B16A . I cruise at 65mph at around 3600rpm in 5th gear and it does it constantly. I'm thinking it's more on the fuel delivery side. PLEASE HELP!
Well fuel pumps normally don't act up like that. There are basically 2 conditions the fuel pump can be in, normal or dead, and if your car is starting up, then its not dead. Try changing your fuel filter, specially if it has not been changed in awhile. You said you put on new wires and cap, did you put on a new rotor to ? If not I would also change that. Also you said you have a gsr pump, did you put that in recently and did you use a new filter bag ? I would say maybe your fuel pump is clogged but I highly doubt it, specially if you just changed that.
Yea, I'll change the filter and rotor. I have a an MSD external coil and cap on the way that I only paid $20 for new so I couldn't pass it up. The MSD wires made the car act even worse though. I'll try some of the easy solutions. If all else fqails I'll try the fuel pump, I can get a Walbro pretty a pretty reasonable price. The only reason I thought it could be a fuel pump is because my dad's Trans Am was acting the same way and that's what it was, the fuel pump.
A fuel pump that is having output problems will behave differently. You will "run out of gas" at higher rpm and loads. Part throttle hesitation is more likely an ignition issue, although it could be a fuel management problem (not fuel delivery).
I talked to Joe at HASport and he told me to eliminate the Injector Resistor box since I'm using an OBD1 motor. I thought that could be the problem so I cut it out and soldered all the wires together but I later thought that, that could be the problem so I wired it back in. I'll check my timing too.
have u done a fuel pressure test. the pressure should read about 36-41 psi. if higher than that its your fuel pressure regulator if lower its your fuel pump.
the prob could also be your injectors
the prob could also be your injectors
I just did a few things. 1, I checked the plugs. The look perfect except for maybe a touch of or hint of white so its running lean? 2, I checked almost my whole fuel system. I turned on the car to see if it built pressure at the fuel rail and I broke open the cap and it sprayed so I now know I'm getting fuel, but I'm not positive of the pressure. How should I go about checking that? I also took off the fuel filter and it was completely filled which i guess it should be. For some reason now when I come to a stop my idle surges too. This just started happening within the ast 20 min. It goes 1200-800-1200. I have the OBD1 motor and I was thinking if I should change the injectors to OBD0, I've talked to a few people about this and they said it wasn't necessary. Thanks for all the help, this helps a lot.

The only way to accurately measure fuel pressure is with a guage. Your description of your injector wiring concerns me, I would double check that aspect of your engine carefully. As far as OBD0, 1, and 2, the engine is not what determines what you are running. The ECU and wiring is what determines what you should run. I have been running a 98 GSR motor (OBD2) with a 95 Civic EX ECU and engine wiring harness (OBD1). Your idle fluctuating indicates a possible vacuum leak, which may explain your part throttle hesitation. Or you may have multiple problems. Just check everything very carefully, step by step.
Since I'm using the OBD0 ECU I'm gonna swap the OBD0 injectors in. I know there's no vacuum leak because I can stall the car by covering the throttle body. Overall I'm using an OBD PR3 ECU, OBD0 distrib. and wiring harness and OBD1 other parts. I got lead in the wrong direction originally i guess. People told me to use the OBD1 injectors.
