HELP!!! Crank pulley bolt impossible to remove!!
I have tried an air gun
Breaker bar
Broke an extension also
DAMN!!!!!
The problem seems to be that I cannot stop the crank pulley from moving slightly and therefore cannot break the bolt. the helm's manual says to put a screwdriver on the flywheel but my tranny is still connected. What the hell can I do??????!! !!!

The helms manual NEVER mentions you use a screwdriver on the flywheel
it tells you to use a special honda tool that will hold the pulley in place so you can break the torque off the bolt.
try this place:
http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net they sell a tool just for that job, about $40+shipping.
if you have money to burn honda sells their special tool for about $100-150; depends on dealership.
work smarter not harder

Take off the starter, shove a long STRONG flathead screwdriver between the flywheel teeth and the tranny casing, get a strong BREAKER bar, not a ratchet, because you will for sure break the ratchet. Put some elbow grease into and it'll come off easy as pie.
If the engine is out of the car, have somebody sit on it to keep it from rocking over....it will take possibly 3 people to do it if it's out of the car.

On a very very very important side note.. I cannot stress this enough...Get a new bolt from HONDA, and make sure they give you the instructions...no matter how carefully you follow the manual, if you re-use the old bolt, it will fall out.. I know from experience. There's some rediculous procedure to get the new one torqued, but otherwise it will fall out while your driving, causing lots of badness to happen

Those Honda crank pulleys are no joke. I tried a 6 foot long extension pipe on a alredy big breaker bar, while holding the flywheel with a fatass screwdriver from the bottom, (flywheel cover removed). didnt do anything. Finally ended up paying a shop 20 bux to acetaline torch it and then use a BIG F%^#ng 650 ft/lb impact gun on in. That seemed to work. But if you end up torching it make sure to change the oil seal.

that is not true
you can reuse the origional one just make sure its torqued properly to 136ft lbs or whatever the helms says.
and i bought a moroso crank pulley tool for my timing belt jobs.

i bought the moroso (sp?) crank pulley holder and that did not help me take off the bolt. I could not get the car high enough for me to be able to use it. There was no room for me to create enough leverage.
what i ended up doing was buying a can of PB blaster and messing with the air gun i borrowed from my GF's uncle. There wasa *** from 0-9 that i could turn. i thought 9 would give my the most torque but it wouldnt move. after 15minutes of trying and spraying more PB, i tried with the setting on 0 and it came right now.
the crank pulleu holder was helpful when i torqued the bolt back on

just remove the starter and stick a STRONG strewdriver in one of the flywheel holes and have someone hold the strewdriver while u turn the bolt on the crankpulley
Use a breaker bar with a pipe on it

somthing was wrong with your bolt then because ive never heard of one backing out if its torqued properly.
and i have done 4 timing belts and dont know how many hundreds of people have done them on this board and have never mentioned that.

I suggust you go to the GYM
with only a foot of space between my car and the ground I broke the torque off the bolt. I've done alot of hondas and I've never met a bolt I couldn't take off.

how did you fit under the car with only a foot of space?
anyways, i have never heard of the crank pulley bolt backing out. guess this is the first

i bought a 25 dollar craftsman chain strap wrench from sears and it help the pulley no problem and the bolt came right off with an airgun. HTH

is that the one with a long chain that goes around the pulley and kinda has teeth that keeps the pulley from turning?
i would rather not use that because the teeth digs into the pulley. this might damage the belt.

What about with an Automatic tranny???? How can i get the bolt off without having to buy that high dollar tool. I can't wait for a tool to come in.. i need to replace the timing belr asap so i can get the car on the road again. its my only transportation.
its nearly impossible to remove a crank pulley on ANY motor without a transmission attached.
the tool isnt that expensive. well worth it.

I slid a 4 foot pipe over my 2 foot breaker bar to remove the crank pulley bolt.
it took all of my weight ~180 pounds on the end of this 5 to 6 foot contraption to get enough leverage to remove it.
without enough leverage you will never get that **** off.
pb blaster will help top a certain extent, but dont bet on too much help there.
the (hex) crank pulley holders are great tools, I used one and it was perfect.. made the removal take 5 minutes!
other ways are to remove the header, remove the tranny access plate under the block near the oilpan and jam the flywheel there, or you can use the starter location as well.
good luck bro, this is one of the toughest things to remove if you do not have the correct tools.

Tried to jam it up, all it did was break off part of the tranny that was supporting the bar i had jammin it... I called NAPA an dthey said tey had a HArmonic Crank Pulley remover... who knows if this is the right tool or not but its $11 something... I might just have to order the tool off line and while i'm waiting a few weeks prolly for it to come in I can just ride my 12-speed 92' Huffy Moutain climber
hahaha.... **** that nut is a bitch to break loose... I didnt have this trouble on my B20 or H23.... but those were on manuals and i coudl just get some1 to hold the breaks down for me... this is an auto... this sucks..
