Default magazine recommendations

I need to learn more about performance. I learned a lot about how engines work when I was growing up. I know the basics, but I want to keep abreast of all the newest technology in automobile performance. From my past experiences with car magazines, it seems that they give every new part a great review because they are selling advertising space to the manufacturers. What magazine would you guys recommend? I'm more into performance than show. I own an ITR, but I am interested in different types of cars, mostly imports. I'm not into any one type of racing either. Thanks for any help.

None. Just use Honda-Tech or one of the Hybrid Sites.

H-T is an invaluable site. There are some amazing car minds on this site. It is the best place to find out which manufacturer is best for any one particular product, but it is not the best place to gain basic knowledge, or detailed step-by-step instructions. I wish that there were a place on this site for educational articles.

if you want mags, i personally like sport compact, though some of there stuff is kinda cheesy, the other two i like are turbo and motor trend.
i think though if you do a search on h-t and you dont find what youre looking for, post your question, i think people will be willing to help you out on whatever you need help on.

H-Tech is by far a better teacher than those things. Every import mag i've ever come across is all ads, no tech. If they do have a tech write-up it's something dumb like "How to install brake pads", nothing useful.

The worst part is that Turbo, SuperStreet, Sport & Compact Car, etc. are all owned by the same company, Primedia, so you get the same articles over and over, same pics, same everything. Cheap bastards.

I subscribe to Car & Driver, Sport Compact Car, and Grassroots Motorsports. I search through the racks once a month on the chance I'll find an issue of some other mag that's worthwhile, but it rarely happens.

I get Grassroots Racing, Sport Compact Car, Hot Rod, Turbo, Car & Driver, Motor Trend, Road & Track, Super Street (they used to have good tech articles, subscription cancelled now), and a few others. Of all, I recommend Grassroots, SCC, even Hot Rod, and Turbo, these four I've gotten the best information. Though, Hot Rod may confuse you when you're thinking about Honda's, but they give good info. I'm least happy with Turbo, they have dropped in pages and seem to fade away from the nitty-gritty tech that they used to dwell into. Good example of SCC, last month they had a entire article covering compressor maps in layman's terms.
