Default UPDATE: Car problems.. timing retard

All,

Car isn't with me now, so I can't play with the timing... but when running pretty much stock, and using an MSD ignition to retard the timing will I notice a huge loss in power. May sound strange, but I need to know to diagnose a problem I'm havin. My timing may have been retarded when daily driving (even though it was supposed to advance the timing when off the bottle, and retard it when running the n20) due to being improperly informed by a shop. Is cruising around with a 3 degree retard enough to make me feel like I'm driving a slug? I'm not sure whether it is retarded 3 or 5 degrees, but the car was noticeably lagging. Is 3 enough to make it feel that slow?

Sorry about the strange questions...just anxious to talk about this, seeing as though I can't do anything about it now, I figure I may as well talk about it with you all.

Jon

I think you pretty did yourself in with the 15 different HID threads you started up a while ago all asking the same question.

Are you getting very bad gas mileage?
Are you sure your ecu isn't dumping fuel (i.e. crazy rich) AND retarding the timing as well?

I don't think 3 degrees would change the car THAT much, but 5 may. I don't know for sure.

If the car is noticeably lagging AND you are NOT in limp/fuel dump/safety/whatever-you-call-it mode, you may have other problems.

My car was at 10 degrees for some odd reason but I didn't think any of it until stock cars were beating me at the strip.

Aww c'mon Ross... don't speak too soon. Maybe that's why so many people online are affraid of installing N20 (I know I was before I just "wing'ed" it). Anyway - here's what I'm getting to....

Checked my plugs, and I was running rich in all cylinders... so timing was next.... The bodyshop that fixed the car after my accident wired the ignition differently then it was before. Before the accident I had the digital ignition setup to retard the timing when the n20 system was armed, and to be at stock timing when off the bottle. Because they wired it differently, I found that my loss in power was due to a SIX degree retard when daily driving. Sheesh. Oh well, I'm glad it's solved. Car feels so poppy again
