Center Sub...
I know there is stuff about it in here, I just can't find it. I need to replace the center "sub" in the 4th gen vtecs, but I dont know anything about it. Can someone inform me about it? size, brand to replace it with, how to replace it...
to get to that sub you have to disassemble the rear seats if i remember, it is a 6x9 woofer that sits in there. i think you could replace it with any good 6x9 because when you take apart the back you will see that there is an amplifier sitting under the woofer, this just amps up the lows. so if you put in a good 6x9 with a good frequency response it will work. if you REALLY want a stock i can sell you mine, i am not big on audio
i had to replace mine when i got the car cause it was blown. any way i'll try to walk through this, if i miss any thing let me know.
first disconnect battery, then you have to drop the back seat. you will see a cover around the hole going into the trunk. there are two plastic/ rubber plugs that hold this, on remove them.now you should have access to the top screw that holds the cover on and the rubber plug that is on the bottom remove these
now on the other side i just pulled on the seat and used a magnetic tip screwdriver to get the screw out and pulled the plug off the bottom. remove the cover and you now have direct access to the speaker.
there should be four screws holding the speaker in place remove these and pull speaker out slightly. disconnect the electrical clip on the back and set speaker aside. now you have to cut that clip off the wires (remember which wire is + and -).
at this point you can solder the new wires that come with the speaker or use wire splices. i prefer splices because its a whole lot easier. once the new wires with the connectors are on plug in your new speaker. put the speaker back in place with like two screws. now you test it, reconnect battery and make sure it works. if it does just reverse the removal steps and you have a new speaker.
