Steering wheel alignment.
my alignment seems to be fine (take hands off steering wheel, car goes perfectly straight) , but my steering wheel is turned a little to the left when the wheels are straight. does anyone know how to fix this? i'd hate to pay $50 for a full alignment when this is all i need.
At the alignment place thay should do it for you, included in the price of a 4-wheel alignment. they have to put this clamp on your steering wheeel to hold it center while its supported onto your seat. Then they take a ratchet or something and make adjustments on the steering column, either adjusting it to the left or right. They did it for me and it came out perfect. If you drive on a perfectly flat road, my car will go straight and the steering wheel will look straight. But on a bad road it may be a bit off, so dont worry about it.
yea, i know the alignment place will do it for me if i pay for a full alignment, but all i need is the steering wheel... does anyone have specific directions on how to do this? .. or is this something too difficult to do withought major equiptment.
They should be able to do it for you for free.....it doesnt take long. no complicated tools are required. I used to work for Pep Boys and they help me out all the time
ok..here's how to aline yoour steering wheel. take the center cap off. of the cover. there's a large nut in there. use a large socket and lossen it. go find yourself a piece of long road with nobody on it. drive the car so its goin straight...pull the steering wheel out and move the splines till you feel its straight...just keep an eye on where your cars goin. this worked for me all the time. once its striaght...tight nut back on..and your set..hope this helps
