Default Easy How To:Keep your shift boot up

I bought a new **** recently and there was a gap between the boot and the ****, I could'nt glue it cause in reverse and 1st or 5th it would put to much pressure on it and would always break apart so I went ot my local hardware store and bought a little rubber plug making sure that the top and bottom fit pretty much flush with teh boot and ****. I drilled a hole through the plug and shaved off some of the bottom with a knife to make it easier to work the boot on, then I just screwed the **** on and voila! Enough space for the boot not to stretch and no more little gap with the shifter arm showing, Im pleased and it only cost me 44 cents!

just take the boot off, and put a zip tie from the bottom side. it will hold the boot up also..

same thing I did, but with electrical tape....lol.

Just take the boot off after you find how far the shift **** sits, then wrap some electrical tape around the shifter, drop over the boot(the top of the boot will stay up from the lip and the tape)....and you're good to go.

I just don't like the look of the rubber.....good DIY though

Yea just another way to do it, I like the way the rubber looks and how it grips to the boot instead of just sitting against the metal, just another way to do it for all those asking how...

you can also push a skateboard bushing down on the shifter. same concept as using zipties, just a larger base.

if you'd invert that rubber plug it would work and probably look better. i could be wrong but to me the plug looks like a cone if its not than ignore my post

That's how I did it but w/ an appropriately-sized rubber grommet.

Naw, if you invert it, the lines wouldn't be even like it is now. It looks as is.

washers can also do the trick, the rubber doesn't look too pretty imo.

Just take off the boot and wrap a bunch of electrical tape below the boot to hold it up next to the shifter.
