Where is the VIN # on a D16y8?
Sorry for the dumb question .. but I'm going from a y7 to y8, and I can't find the vin plate. My y7 is on the front on the tranny, and someone told me to check the back. Nothing. Just the block stamp and some barcode sticker.
Anyone?
Anyone?
I've combed this darn motor. Still no luck. Am I just looking for the wrong thing here? The VIN plate is right by my block stamp on the y7..but no luck on the y8. Here's a pic:
Okay if you're really talking about the VIN then this hasn't been covered yet... What you have under the "D16Y7/8" engine stamp is the serial number... On 96+ motors you also have a VIN plate on the block which matches the dash and firewall mounted VINs on the vehicle... On a B series motor you'll find it on the front of the block (directly behind the header)... On a D series motor you'll find it on the back of the block directly underneith the alternator... Hope this helps a lil... Peace

Oh wow.. that helps alot actually. One more thing though, when you say tucked .. does that mean I have to remove something to find it? I'm looking through the cracks and everything and still can't see it. Can anyone take a picture of there's if possible?
Thank you very much !!!

Yea sorry about the wording... I just said that because really it is kinda hidden when trying to look through the top of the engine bay... The easiest way to find it is to jack up the car and look directly under the alternator... It's right there tagged onto the back of the block... I would take a pic but unfortunately right now I don't have any single cams... If I find one i'll be sure to snap one for ya.... Latez

Okay still no luck..I took pics of the area I thought you were talking about. I'm also posting a pic of the back end of the motor .. maybe you can draw a circle around where i should be looking?
Thanks again !!!

It's supposed to be right under that alternator bracket.

Thanks for that picture. I guess I'm back to square one. I don't have any of those VIN plates on mine. The guy I purchased this from assures me that everything is legit, and gave me all his personal info just in case. He seems really honest, and is also local. But I guess my question is..what can I do at this point to verify that my motor is legit? Especially if I'm sent to the ref?
And can I take my VIN plates off my existing y7 and put them on the y8?

Hmmm... I'm sorry, never have seen a Y7/8 block before with no VIN... It doesn't look as tho it has been removed and plugged but just as 7PSI CRX showed, that's where it is supposed to be....
This is a repost of his pic but it atleast saves the time of copying and pasting the link... Peace
