my engine bay is so dirty. what do you guys do to keep your engine bay clean. i live at the beach and it seem impossible to keep sand out of the engine bay. please some help.
Follow the steps outlined at this webpage for a nice, detailed engine bay:

Substitute Meguiars Vinyl and Rubber cleaner instead of AmorAll

if it's just sand, you should be able to just rinse it off quickly when you wash your car. It's the salt that you need to be concerned with. That'll oxidize you engine and all the metal parts that aren't coated.

ive seen the works of simple green (patrick) but ive heard from a detailer that you should use a product containing an ingredient called "orange ??" If someone knows please list the name.

castrol makes a great cleaner. blue spray bottle. after you get it all clean. once a week just use a lint clothe and wipe off the sand. or rinsing with light-pressure water will work. i get mine steam-cleaned once a month at the honda dealer for free.
I just spray a mist of water into the engine bay. I use a small towel to cover up the distributor and its nearby components. After that, I just douse the entire engine bay with Simple Green.
Simple Green has no acidic chemicals in it. So it will not tarnish any of the metal finishings. Let it stand there for a 5-7 minutes, then rinse it again with water. Repeat this step once more.
After that. Get a towel, and just absorb all the major water puddles. After that is done. Spray a lot of that NO TOUCH TIRE FOAM. Spray everything, I mean, everything!!!
Let it dissinigrate (sp?) and just clean the liquids off with a towel. your car will look just about brand new.

I also use Simple Green and as little water as possible. Only thing I cover up is the distributor. I just put a grocery bag over it and wrap it up tightly so no water gets in there.
I use the Meguiars Vinly and Rubber cleaner since it gives everything a nice finish, not too slimey and shiney.

Yep I cover the distributor cap and any electrical assembly, fuse box, etc and go easy around the area. Spray some simple green, leave it on, spray it off with high pressure washer. Just be careful with the high pressure sprays cause I did chip out some paint from the engine cover
