faced with a hard decision
My parents want to trade in my car and get me a 2003 VW Passat GLX 4motion. The deal was all set to go on saturday and I just couldn't give up my car to the dealer. So we told the dealer we would think about it over the weekend and let him know what we are gonna do today. I have been thinking about it all weekend and I just can't make up my mind on what to do. I really love my ITR still but the idea of having a brand new car again all over is really tempting me as well. I need to make a decision by the end of today. What would you guys do??
Passat is the anti-R . Personally, I like getting new cars as well, but not a Passat. I'd prefer a Subaru Impreza or Evo for the price.
Oh, and "evilcetane", buddy didn't ask for your opinion on his situation. How in the **** do you know the circumstances? And WTF do you even care if he's spoiled? It has absolutely no impact on your life, so just drop it. No need for all the rage!!!

Why do your parents want to trade it in? Its not like your R is that old... its a 2001 for christ sakes. Stick with the R, you will regret switching to the passat.

Pass at GLX 4 Motion.... WTF???? If you get that, I suggest you also move to Florida and take up lawn bowling....
Stick with the R.... or if you want a 4 DR, trade the R in for an EVO 8 …

If you want something more comfy, etc get the passat, otherwise keep the R. You've driven both right? keep whichever you want.

I wouldn't trade an ITR for a Passat.
It's a nice car, and sure, it's brand new, but if you like the feel of your car you'll probably get bored with the Passat. A GLX 4-Motion is a pretty pricey car. For the money there are better options IMO.

keep the R!
Park it for a couple of weeks then drive it like a bitch! You'll get the new car feeling all over again, and a whole new appreciation for the car.........happens to me every spring!

They are really worried with me driving the ITR. They don't feel it is a safe car. If I keep it I will have to put up with them always worrying about me when I'm driving the ITR and I know they won't allow me to drive it most of the winter because they don't think its good in bad weather. So I dunno I really would like to keep it but I also do feel bad that they have to be worried everytime I get in the car to go somewhere. And for the suggestions about trading it in for something like the EVO 8...I would defintely do that but that would be just like driving the ITR, another sports car that would worry them.
I know your asking for non-biased opinions, but everyone here owns a Type-R for a reason. I, personally, would never trade in my R for something along those lines. I would "consider" a trade with other cars.

well said, oh com'on, I am sure you won't go to your parent one day and say "hey, let trade in the sport car for a family sedan".
haha.... honestly, I don't think you have the final call here.
but, then if you do (good for you) .... I think the answer is pretty simple and obvious.
Passat? pssss.

Ask them what they are paying for insurance for the R vs. what they would pay for the Passat (i.e. comprehensive coverage with reasonable deductable).
Do you have a clean driving record? Ask your insurance company what your rates go up to if you get in an accident or get more speeding tickets.
