Okay, I just used a DeWalt 240 ft/lb. electric impact wrench on the crank pulley bolt for like 10 minutes and the thing didn't move one bit. I'm assuming the bolt turns counter clockwise to loosen, right?

Use a crankpulley holder and a breaker bar. It's easier.

Already tried that. That's why I'm using the impact wrench. The car is in 5th gear, with someone standing on the brakes while I hammer on the bolt. The crank pulley isn't moving while I'm using the impact wrench, so I don't think it needs to be secured anymroe....

 

I had to use a 24" breaker bar and the screwdriver through the flywheel.

Oh, I'm 200lbs and hand to stand on the breaker bar to get the bolt loose....engine was out of the car.

 

Damn thats tough. Just keep hammering away. Healthy amounts of PB Blaster on the regular.

Heh, thats how I got my axle nuts off. 18in breaker bar and I jumped up and down on it until they broke loose.

 

yea if you are using an impactwrench you need something way more powerful then 240ftlbs i have a 500ftlb ingersolrand impact gun and it barely gets them off.

 

Man, those electric impact wrenches don't put out anywhere near the torque that they claim to. 200ft-lbs is the "peak" output, but it probably sustains 125 or so. There's no way you'll get the bolt off with that thing.

I use a 425 ft-lb Ingersoll-Rand air impact wrench and it works every time. You're gonna need to get a good impact wrench or take it down to a shop and have them bust it loose. Then they can put it back in tight enough for you to get it home, but not so tight that you can't remove it yourself.

Well my car is in my driveway, and the timing belt is already broken, so I can't take it anywhere without having it towed. Looks like it's back to the breaker bar...

Get a hollow pipe and put it over the end of the breaker bar.....

 

Get the breaker bar, and use a cheater. I used a 10ft. fence pole to take off my axle nut this weekend. It literally came off like butter. It was just laying around so I used it.

What if you have a Automatic????? how do i keep the crank still to break that bolt! help........ please.......

 

i knew a mickey mouse mechanic that put the breaker bar on the crank pulley and let it rest on the ground got in the car and turned the key ...****** came right off

Ummm - that would TIGHTEN it. He must have been doing that on a non-Honda, or maybe one of the new ones that spin the other way.

How about taking off your starter & using a crowbar on the ring gear?

 

dude save yourself the trouble and the sweat.... get a BIG azz impact wrench and it will come right off. try and rent it if you can. you dont even need to lock the FW. its not worth the trouble of struggling with that stupid bolt.

 

How much do you think it would cost to rent one? I dont have air tools. just all electric so my Impact isnt fit for the job.... i need a impact that is so big that could work on ChooChoo trains heh...

we had to do the same on my freind gen 4 prelude...except on the end of it was me & my freinds dad yeilding 400+ lbs of forced to break that sucka lose...shows the torque on a bolt that been orginal since facotry after 126K miles!...and dont stick the screwdriver in the flywheel = broke teeth on flywheel and a new project to replace it...buy the tool...its only like 50 or 60 bucks!

 

and btw electric impact wrenchs are worth ****! get a good air one w/ a hugass compressor...im talkin at least 600+ ft/lbs of torque....and btw that wouldnt even take off my freind lude crank pulley!
