Default Whats the big deal about a ZC Motor??????

All the shops in my area tell me that a ZC motor is a load of **** and that it offers little or no performance upgrade in comparison to a D16a6. If thats true then why is everyone doing it???? And if it isn't true then what are the benefits in getting a ZC motor??? Thanks

I can tell you the ZC gave me alot more power over my a6 then I/H/E on the a6 would have and cost quit a bit less than I/H/E would have so I got a ZC. I also really wanted to gain the knowledge I did from doing my own swap, my opinion of doing the swap was it was really fun.

Most people hate the ZC... that's part of what makes it fun to have.

I've seen quite a few ZC swaps... MOST off about 3/4 second quicker in the quarter mile, and quite a bit more after that over an A6 if the motors are in similar condition. Of course a well tuned A6 will beat a crap ZC. The ZC is a great cheap motor is you're looking to replace a shot A6 (or other 4th gen D series). B series motors are faster for the most part, but cost more.

I'm running 14.0 in my heavy *** Si with a ZC and thats after about 4 years of abusing it. The motor still runs good, doesn't leak oil (much), has good compression, starts every day with no hesitation, etc... etc... Don't listen to the ZC haters. If you want one and you do the swap right, I'm sure you'll like it.

I have a zc in my 90 4 door civic with full interior and runs a 14.9, and its a automatic. I had it for 8 years now and i have no oil leaks, doesnt burn oil, it still drives strong. My set up is dc headers, aem cam gears, ported and honed intake manifold,tb,stock head with stock cams, stock bottem end, and a modified converter in my transmission, which i use a ex transmission, my car was an lx, drop in filter. Going to drop a d16 from 92 to 95 civic soon because im getting sick of smog in calif.

The ZC is a nice performance upgrade from the A6 and can usually be picked up for under $500. Its quicker and has just as much aftermarket support if you know where to look for it. If your on a budget or just looking for a little more performance then go with the ZC. If you want more power get a B series engine.

The ZC isnt really a bad motor....it really is just frowned upon cuz of the no-tec-its all bout v-tec ....but rolling AC is ffun and not a bad bit of motor at all-bottle it like a baby or bump the comp.....funkin up some b series all night long...it takes a different person to be different.

Or you could buy a SOHC ZC. Same power, one cam, less weight,

I know you can't predict peoples 1/4 and there is a lot involved but can anyone tell me if it is possible saying I am a pretty good driver to get my barely over 2000lbs DX with ZC engine and ZC tranny into the 14s? Most people I've seen go to about 15.3, but I was wondering if 14s are possible? That would be with intake, exhaust, header. Is it possible?

Beefier A6 but with DOHC, usually can find them for under $400, I got mine for $300. Doesn't require mounts, great replacment if you fried your D16A6.

Maybe slightly possible with some really good tires, clutch, and tuning. It would definitely be possible with an Si tranny.

The SOHC ZC has less hp than the DOHC ZC. The DOHC has 130, the single cam one, everyone keeps throwing around numbers from 110-115. I dunno the definate answer on the SOHC ZC but it IS less than the DOHC ZC. If you look at the SOHC ZC it looks Almost identical, if not completely identical to an A6...except of course for the fact that the block stamp says ZC on it

DOHC 130 hp

I dont know about this forsure, this is just what people have been telling me.
But forsure you looking around 130hp.

The ZC is a great little workhorse. You can abuse the **** out of those motors and not have to worry too much about it. It is probably the closest thing to the infamous 22R plus the fact that its cheap, easy to install and still has a ton of potential makes it one of the best in my book.
Personally, I'm a vtec person. I love the sound that a b16 or b18 or h22 makes as it passes its point of entry but for a non-vtec motor the zc is one of the best.
