h22 still makes more power... it just stock power gain on h23 is nice.. like i bolted on 120 whp from stock at 6psi.. i mean i have exhaust and cams and few other ***** but still.... anyway both motors are good turbo motors... just watch out for the ringlands

not really any big advantages over the two? if i went turbo, i wouldnt really want to boost alot. 6lbs sounds about right for me.... sounds to my i should just kick down the extra money for the vtec right?

BoostedH23a1, have you had any problem with your turbo at 6.5 psi? I have plans on adding a turbo on my H23 this summer. If i ran 6 psi daily, would i need to worry about the internals right away?

Big advantage? i'd have to say no. if you already have an h23 then just boost that. instead of laying money out for an h22 motor swap, you could just rebuild the h23. Cause h22 or h23, both have weak ringlands so without a rebuild you're looking at low boost levels.

thanks symba. my problem is that i have an S prelude. f22 sohc.... thats what im up against. i need to decide h22 between h23. if there isnt going to be a big difference after boost... then i should go with the cheaper non vtec route, right?
does anyone have a rough 1/4 mile time estimate for the 2?

i asked the same question and people told me to rebuild my h23 over buying the h22 so thats what im doin right now i look at it this way if you want to run more than 8-9 psi your goin to have your motor rebuilt but i already had the h23 so i figured instead of buy a h22 and then having that rebuilt i would just build up my h23 which isnt cheap for a high school student. thats just what i am doing but i dont know how easy it is to find h23 where you live i live in iowa and there isnt jack **** for prelude parts. i plan on runnin boost this summer pry 10psi daily
hey boostedh23a1 are you runnin stock axles or not. jw

dude, go for the H23. why? becaues VTEC is absolutely worthless when applied to a boosted motor. When you're dealing with real FI applications, anyway.

your a ******* moron, you need to learn what the **** you are talking about, if VTEC sucks so bad for turbo, please explain to me why when my car on STOCK cams would lay your *** back in the seat even harder when VTEC engaged, or why my buddies STOCK B16 with a DRAG kit would break traction when VTEC engaged in 3rd gear?????

you have no idea what you are talking about, you obviously heard that **** from some dumbestic guy, or some DSM guy that is pissed off that their car can't do that.... i know a DSM guy that tried telling me the same ****, i told him to blow smoke up someone else's *** before he gave me cancer

more specifically, a head that flows well combined with a well-tuned agressive cam is better for boost.

Simply having 'variable timing' does not make more peak power. It lets you run a more agressive setup and stay civil around town.

moral of this story: build bottom ends being equal, you will spend significant amounts of money on an H23 head to get it to produce H22 numbers, at the cost of some comfort at street lights and in rush hour.

If you're going to build the **** out of both motors, the only difference will be a slightly larger diplacement, but a less optimum valve angle (I think its 25 degrees vs. 30).

calm down guys, its gonna depend on the application. When you're ONLY talking about peak power, the mass of a VTEC valvetrain isn't needed. Thats why you'll find locked VTEC roller rockers on a lot of B-series race motors.

You won't see those cars enjoying a smooth ride to work. Set your goals, then decide which motor is for you.

i wanna get a good set up for daily driver. 6lbs.... nothing fancy. the BOV will do the work for me. im not too into street racing down here in san diego due to the ******* cops...
im thinking just suck up the extra 1k it will cost me for the h22 vtec. that way, no one bitches to me that i could have gone better... and the vtec will make my daily driving (freeway) alittle more reasonable gas mileage.... correct?
