Need help with V-AFC set-up (B16a2)
I installed it last night at 2am
(im a night crawler) and drove my car to work today, after the initial set-up I did last night. So I start screwin around with the fuel/air/vtec options.
I got this one set-up from a web site about a vtec prelude. The guys said it was a good place to start from without making too durastic settings.
So i do the same set-up as them. Take my car out for a test drive....hit vtec....engin goes beserk....stops running....i then pull over, shut my car off, re-set my vafc to factory stats and re do the initial set-up for my car. By that time(when i hit vtec and it all went haywhire) the engin light came on and wouldnt go away after. I got home finally found a good place to mount it and also disconected the battery(to get rid of the engin light).
What my question to you guys is, how should I tune my vafc? Can someone give me a good set-up for it? I got a B16a2, with a CAI. Im not too familure with the V-AFC and dont want to screw up my car. So I wanted to ask more experienced people. So anyone with V-AFC experience please post here and give me some good set-ups.
This year im gonna go turbo so Im still gonna need to knowhow to use it, so I dont want someone to just tell me what to set it to, but to tell me what to set it to and explain why those settings are good. And with this kinda of thing I dont think there is too much space for error, I really dont feel like buying a new ECU after screwin around with it myself... Thanks to anyone who replies!

i think that your best option would be taking it to a shop that has a dyno, and does dyno tuning and let them fiddle around with it. you have to know what your doing in order to correctly adjust vtec engagment points, and mess around with the air/fuel ratio, and having access to a dyno REALLY helps.
good luck
good luck
See thats what I figured. But I was hoping someone could give me an idea of what to do so I can try by myself. Id rather learn myself than have someone else do it all for me and I not have a clue what they did.

u got the same dilema i have
i have the SFC-VTEC and i wanted at least a baseline so i can have the car right now ok; so it doesnt run like ****....
but actually unless u got a AF gauge or a dyno tuning u are out of options
what they have told me.... is to reset the VAFC... leave it untune.... that way the readings from the engine sensors go tru it without being modified.... that way the engine runs normal fuel maps til u can get it tuned

Thats the way i got it on right now. Its working fine, I just got the inital set-up done, nothing else has been changed. I drive around with it on with no problems, but say i DO get a air/fuel gauge, how could I mod it by keeping an eye on the air fuel gauge? How will I know what to set the fuel/air to when in high cam or when in lo?

But vtec isnt my problem. I get vtec normally with or without the V-AFC. Infact today I noticed it was hitting a bit late (after 5500rpm) so I checked my V-AFC and it showed it was supposed to engage at 5800rpm, so i changed it to my car's stock rpmg switch over which is 5500. it worked fine after that. I just want to figure out when I switch the vtec engagement point what to set my fuel/air ratings to, at what rpm's.
EDIT: Im not too sure what to say about that thread u posted cuz the diagram I used to install mine worked fine, I still get vtec (the V-AFC shows vtec turns on both the ecu and the vafc, I can also hear/feel it. So the whiring isnt the problem(I dont think) the problem is that I dunno what to set to fuel and air to if I want to lower my vtec engagement point.
