Why is it when I look for RX-7's I'm finding that most of them have factory replaced engines??

the engines usually don't last long. they are prone to detonation and besides that they usually blow their seals. Mostly all has to do with user error and not proper care.

Because people try to mod them like they mod a piston engine and they blow them up. It's no fault of the car... Just ignorance of the owners. Kinda like if a Chevy guy bought an ITR and decided to slap on a 200hp shot of N20 because "Mah Camaro can take it, so this here four banger can too!"

i agree, also the engines just don't really last that long, even with owners that take care of their engines, service etc, the engines only last about 60,000-70,000 miles before blowing seals etc. Lots of rx guys sell their cars and move up to a supra.

Ha ha, very funny! Trust me, I've heard them all before I'll have it out there sooner or later. When I'm done with it.

That's funny. Both of my rx7s have over 140,000 on the original motors.............

All FC's (86-91) have the same oil cooler, turbo or not.

I own a 9second RX7 that i drive everyday on Stock seals and never had a problem with detonation or blowing seals, all you have to do is run it a lil rich and change your oil once a month and it will last forever. 13b's are really strong motors ( Alot stronger than a B18C5 for sure , if it can take 600hp on stock internals ) the reason most RX7s have rebuilt motors is b/c they are soooo cheap to work on or even get a brand new from mazda ($1200) that it is worth doing it.

I have an 85 GSL-SE with 140k and still running strong. It is bone stock except a K&N filter. The 1st generations are the most reliable in my opinion..

Thats the reason I didn't buy one. The cars are awesome, but in addition to the car payment, you need to set up a 'new motor' fund. Put $50-100/month in it so you can buy a new engine every 3 years. From what I've seen its rare for a late model rx7 engine to last more than 70,000. Apparently some people here have had more sucess with their rx7, but I think thats rare.

its not rare...try treating your b18c5 motor like **** , change your oil late all the time , dont clean your fuel system ever etc, and see what happens , the only thing you have to do to keep a 13b running is pay a lil more attention to the motor than you would to a piston motor.. runing a lil rich is a must.. i know plenty of 93s with 120,000+ miles...the fact is , a 13b is stronger than a b18c5 , its all up to the owner and how long he wants it to last.
