Default thinking about buying a 91 prelude Si?

Well, I used to own a black 1991 Prelude Si. It had the 2.1L motor, and every option available. Unfortunatly noone ever knew what was wrong with the AC, so I sold it. Come to find out the problem was probably just an expansion valve. Damn, I miss that car

Anyways, I'm considering looking into buying another one. I'm not too big on going fast, but I'd like to make sure I get a good strut/spring combination. Anyone got any suggestions? Also, what about camber kits? I've read about a "Ludespeed" camber kit, but I have no clue if they are still in production.

Also, how much would these cars still go for? Engine and A/C wise, are parts still plentiful...just in case something breaks?

Thanks for anyones' help on this subject.

Yeah man, I understand what you mean. I used to have an 89 that I loved, but it ate a valve. Now I have a 90. As for your question, DO YOUR HOMEWORK!! My 90 is worth way more than twice what I paid for it. I got it for 2000. It has all the options, but its an auto. I bought it for IASCA and its really a great platform.

As far as Ludespeed, well, Tom is not selling any more prelude stuff other than what he posted as old prelude parts. Check my thread of "where are all the 88-91 people" because theres a car for sale there. If you don't mind doing a little work, then it will be for you.

Tom is a little punk bitch that is a complete hack when it comes to making parts. Thank God he has gone out of business. Don't buy **** from him if he is still offloading his garbage.

You can get 3rd gens for next to nothing. There is a 90 Si for sale here in Raleigh for $600. Don't pay more than 2 grand for a 3rd gen. The fact is that the motors are terrible and the car certainly has high miles by now so you are going to have to put some money into it. I had to replace the entire clutch hydraulic system on my 3rd gen a couple weeks back. As far as a camber kit I would not sweat it. 3rd gens have some adjustment and you can get it close to in spec unless you just plain hammer your car to the ground. You can also slot the a-arms a little bit to get a little more positive camber. I have Koni yellows, GC coilovers and Eibach ERS springs on my 3rd gen. Of course the tranny just grenaded 2 days ago so it is in the shop as always. Truth be told, it would be a cold day in hell before I would ever buy another 3rd gen. I have had this car for over 7 years and it has been nothing but trouble. Bad engine + really hard to work on. I mean, they are cool little cars but a complete pain in the *** overall and slow as molasses.

Instead of wasting money on the B21 motor, just swap in a JDM B20A. The B21 motors suck. Just make sure you search around for a 3rd gen in good shape..they are rare..but with enough patience you can find a great looking and running 90-91.

I've had my 3rd gen for almost 5 years (133,xxx miles, 4ws, Jdm H22) still running strong...just needs a tad bit more TLC (but you can only do so much with no money ) Overall...these cars are not hard to work on, just need patience and you also need to do your homework...its not like buying a civic or integra...our preludes (of all years as a matter of fact) require more than opening the nopi catalog. If i had the chance to buy another 3rd gen...I would!!

OH yea if done right...these cars are not slow...read my sig, Thats my daddy.

Wow...thanks for all of the replies..

Anyways, whats with Ludespeed? Why do you feel that way towards the guy? I know nothing about him, other than I ran into his website awhile back. Care to share any thoughts?

Also, I'm not really into engine performance. I just want the thing to be healthy and reliable thats all. Whats the difference between the b21 and the JDM counterpart?

B21=burns oil like crazy
JDM B20A=Cheap reliable cheap that doesnt burn tons of oil. (It will have lower miles too!!)
