Default Intake manifolds

Im building an engine for my 95 GSR and I am planning on using an aftermarket intake manifold.

If the price is the same, which is a better manifold? The JG Edelbrock or the Skunk2?

The original plan was to use JG Edelbrock for both intake and header, but a friend of mine raised a red flag and said that he had some rather dissapointing things about the JG manifold.

I personally dont like skunk2, I know that their products are good but their quality control is horrible. From what I have heard and seen, about 50% of their cam gears are messed up somehow, I know mine are almost dead on but a friend of mine, running the same gears, swears his are ~7 degrees off

If anyone has any other brands to suggest I would be more than happy to take a look at them

JG themselves advertise that their manifold is designed for increases in the 7000-10000 RPM range. The Skunk2 one will be more in the 5000-9000 range. Whats this mean to you, a GSR owner? Your gonna lose some torque downlow most likely with either product, because of the lack of dual runners. The Skunk2 is cheaper, has most all fittings you will need, and is much more practical. I have heard no reports of the Skunk2 manifolds have QC problems.

what exactly does a intake manifold do, and is it hard to install?

Hey man -- remember me (robbie @ IU).

Anyway. The JG Victor X is more of a turbo manifold - and I assume youre going N/A. Skunk2's gears are indeed messed up -- mine were retarded alot as well...however, their IM is quite a piece, and the performance is proven over and over again. Despite it being a ridiculous bitch to install - it really has served me well since Ive had it on - and if you recall me dyno numbers - it performed too with the ITR TB I matched to it.

So, from me, I say go Skunk2.

Didnt you just create a thread saying you were installing one soon?
So...Im thinking you are making something up, or are relatively stupid for buying an intake manifold when you have clue what it does, or the difficulty level of installation. fishy...which actually is it?

and yes. an intake manifold is hard to install. ~4 days of problems here. but done, and happy.

sure do remember you lol

I think I will be going with the skunk2 manifold, thats the second time I have heard of the upper RPM peak range, and I personally dont plan on needing to rev past 9000 to make all my power

I was also looking at the JG edelbrock header, but im not sure if thats such a good idea, i might just end up going with the comptech

skunk2 quality on IM's is fine. they didnt even have to design it. that is why its built good. they just put different flanges on for mating to different heads

JG will loose top end power unless you are making 260+whp

otherwise skunk2 is good despite there bad customer service and horribel instructions

I surprised to hear so many negative comments about SKUNK2!! i think everybody is for getting to mention the great quality of there cams, retainers, and springs they are thr absolute best internal parts you can buy!! I understand there cam gears are a little fucked up but on a dyno you should be able to figure them out relatively quickly!! There customer service i think is 1 of the best they came through for me when i was thinking about buying some used cams and they inspected them for me free of charge!!

I am 95% sure they dont make there own retainers, and they probaby outsource their springs.
I had multiple tech questions regarding my skunk2 IM and they couldnt answer any of them. I was dissapointed with their service.

best internal parts you can buy? where are you from? they are far fromthe best. they are good, but not the best.

Honestly i dont know if there springs or retainers are jobbed out but i know for a fact there cams are made buy them and they are 1 of the best cams you can buy!!
skunk2 intenal parts are not 1 of the best what is then?? Crower?? Yeah Right!! There just has been multiple threads about there cams breakin so that is out the window!! How about JUN parts?? There cams also have been known to snap and destroy your motor!! If anything maybe TODA products but there has been horror storries there also with there cam gears chewing up timing belts!! Those are just a few companies that have tarneshed records in book!!

As it goes for SKUNK2 products i have never read a thread of any of there product breaking or causing any problems except for the timing marks on there gears which can easily be figured out on a dyno!

Are you on crack? Just wondering...you have an exclamation point after everything...like youre jittery. Im jk with you.

Well...Skunk2 cams have broken (stage 2 the most). Skunk2 retainers (as well as most ti retainers) have been bending. I have Skunk2 everything...but Im not going to pretend they are the best at everything. They deceive customers with the Skunk2 Manifold by saying its a direct bolt on - which is an ugly lie. Everyone has their issues, and to say skunk2 is miles in front of JUN or Toda is just preposterous.

(Disclaimer - I love my skunk2 cams, gears, valvesprings, retainers, and intake manifold...and by no means am I tryin to discredit their reliability and power)

bigger is NOT always better. Sometimes too big hurts....
Stay away from the JG IM unless you are going turbo. The plenum and the runners are way too big fro N/A. Just get a S2 or ITR IM.

from what I figure, I should put around 200hp to the wheels... should be interesting

Ill probably end up playing around with 4 or 5 different cam sets and atleast an intake manifold or two just for kicks...
