Clutch / Flywheel opinions...
Hey guys, it's time for a new clutch. I'm pretty set on Exedy. I'm hearing really good things about them. My question is, should I get the regular Exedy, or the stronger one? Anyone have either? Opinions?
Also, should I get a lightened flywheel? If so, how light should I go? I basically have a stock B16. I'll be doing some head work very soon, probably all Type R internals, unless I find a Type R head. Other mods are I/E/VAFC/chipped ECU. Just minor stuff.
Should I Just get my flywheel resurfaced? Any idea how much that costs? Maybe it's worth it to just get a new flywheel.
Any, and all help is very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Goldfingiz

ACT gets a
from me.
I had a 6 puck in my CRX, and it banged like hell, that's why I'm hesitant to get one. I don't want anything falling apart. Then again, my car comes stock with B series and the CRX didn't, so maybe that had an affect on it...

I haven't had any problems with my ACT HDSS with billet lightweight flywheel. it's been almost a year now and still no issues.
Well, with the clutch id recomend an at setup. Clutchmasters are good to, but act is favored a little more, although both are good setups. Flywheel on the other hand takes some consideration, do you want to have to shift faster to keep you car in powerband. Yes a lighter flywheel will help you acceleration some, but with the less momentum they tend to stall easier. I i were u id look into a lighter, but not to light in the ranges of 12-13lbs should see mild gains and have not to drastic results. To get a flywheel resurfaced would set u back about 40-50 depends on machine shop. Laters
Do some research on this site, especially in the ITR archives, and you'll find failure after failure of the Exedys. If you're making any kind of power or doing any kind of hard driving, keep shopping. Conversely, do a search on ACT and just TRY and find a bad word about them.
Upgrade that flywheel. Go as light as you can. You'll be floored by the change. I've got a 7.5lb Cluthmasters on my SOHC and I regularly drive in NYC traffic without any remorse about going that light. It's a dream to drive.

Exedy's street clutch is made for an OEM replacement and really nothing more. Most people having problems have cars putting out a little more power then OEM. However there 3-puck cerametallic race clutch I have heard no complaints from a lot of 11-12sec all motor hatch guys.
