I was just curious as to why the 88 crx is the lightest and then each year gets heavier? I am mostly refering to the si. I know the 90-91 had side inpact beams in the doors, But what else cause the ~150lbs. weight difference?

in the 88s the seatbelts were mounted on the b-pillar (i think thats what its called) in 89-91 they put the seatbelts on the doors. in 90-91 they put a steel beam in the door to help with safety issues.

 

There are also differences with more or less sound deadening material in each year and in each model. Well plus the features as someone stated above like the Si model will be heavier cause of the sunroof. Oh and also some 89's did have the pillar mount seatbelts as well I believe just the HF's? And also in Canada I dont think even the 90-91's have the door maounted seatbelts?

 

Si's also have rear disc.

 

There's probably more smog emissions on the car, too.
