OEM clutch
well i got my clutch replaced with another OEM one, dont ask me why, but i had no choice. now it feels much diferent, it feels easier to push down, its kinda like ist more sensative. (i dont know.......) , is this common, is there some kinda "break in" period??
thanx

My wife and I just replaced the clutch in my GSR with a Type R clutch, and it feels softer, but smoother than the old one. I plan to double check the master and slave cylinders for leaks, and do one last bleed on the clutch too. It could be that the release bearing is sliding real easy on that new grease (a good thing) - did you have alot of miles on the old unit?
I noticed tha the fingers and springs on the ITR pressure plate were as soft, or softer than the ones on the GSR pressure plate that I took off (82k miles)
I also live in Raleigh - who did the work on yours, or did you do it yourself?

what parta raleigh u live??
what parta raleigh u live??
since ur talking about clutches i thought id ask a few questions...
1) how do u know if ur clutch is slipping? what does it feel like?
2) whats a mushy clutch pedal? when i step on my clutch there is about an inch of "lightness" (meaning its easy to push, i guess) before i can feel the pressure when disengaging the clutch.....is that mushy? is this bad??
3) i think i need a new clutch so should i go OEM or get an aftermarket?
i dont really need an aftermarket cuz my car is mostly stock and i think OEM would have a smoother engagement? am i wrong about this??
also i have roughly 53000 miles on my car....but when i got it at 38000 miles, the clutch already felt like this........
any help would be greatly appreciated! TIA
please someone answer.........oh and how much are clutches....oem, clutchmasters, act....,ect...

slo b18b:
1) there are a few ways to check, but i'd say the easiest is when you start feeling the clutch slip as you change gears or start in first, an example is starting off the line, if you briskly increase the gas, and the rpms keep climbing but the car just hops around and doesn't move foward well, or the same when you change gears and stomp on the gas.
2) mushy, umm if you know how to bleed the clutch, which is not hard, replace all the clutch fluid and bleed it well, the engagement should now be firm from the start, there may be a bit of dead space at the very beginning, maybe 1/2 inch, but it should be firm and you should feel the pressure get lighter as the pp reaches disengagement point.
3) Go aftermarket. oem does not necessarily offer smoother engagement. It depends on your driving style, but i have practically no engine mods on my ls engine, but i bought an aftermarket clutch and i love it. Just don't get a puck clutch, get a full face and engagement will not be an issue. But it is awesome to have instant engagement over the stock one where it is kinda sloppy. If driven moderately hard, the aftermarket can be smoother.
Milelage, i had 95,000 when i replaced, and i still had some left, maybe another 10,000. You probably just need to change the fluid because it probably never has been changed.

Baonest,
I live off Western Blvd. about 3 miles west of NC State - how about you?
Does Carolina Imports do paint work? At this point, I need someone to assess the situation with the paint on my roof and hood. It is fading badly in spots, and I want to see if it can be professionally buffed out.
PS - what do you mean by "grinded teeth, and the spring was slipping" ??

After I put in my R clutch...I noticed it was way softer than the stock clutch. I bled my fluid...no leaks....but the clutch grabs just like stock....I was expecting more from an R clutch...oh well....next time it'll be an ACT for sure.

Baonest,
Ahhhh yes, the broken clutch disc spring - hello Honda- what the fphuck? It's 2001 and one would think that non-defective clutch parts would be part of the program by now, eh?
BMDuncan - not Milano Red, but rather fading Pearl Black with ITR "A" badges, gen2 GS-R badge, clear corners, and PIAA 1500 fogs.
