need new rings?
Some of you may have seen my old topic where I'm replace my bro's block in his teg...cause he threw a rod. Anyway the block were getting needs new rings. Can we use the rings off the old block? I'm assuming that these are the piston rings, if the pistons are fine can we just replace the pistons and the rings from the old block to the new one? Some are saying that the cylinder walls need to be shaped around new pistons but I'm not sure. If someone can please help me clear this up, I dont want to buy new rings if I dont have to. Thx in advance.
I wouldn't use old rings especially from a different motor. It's not worth assembling it all just to find out they won't seal. They don't cost that much anyhow, and are well worth it. Compression = Power.
Bah, we were hoping to do it tomorrow, and I'd have to order new rings. The car is just for daily driving and we don't plan on modding it or anything...still need new ones? Anynone got a site that sells them for cheap?
It really would be a good idea to get new rings. You want it all to fit together right, or you burn oil, loose compression...blah, blah, blah. It would also be a good idea to have the block honed so the pistons have a nice, round cylinder to start out in. Don't rush anything! I did that the other day and today I cracked the mount for my, otherwise perfect, starter. Do what you want, but don't complain when you start having problems.

Dude just a word from the wise the rings might not be the only thing screwed up!! When my rings went bad we replaced them and the car was still burning oil!! Finally we narrowed it down to the cylinfder walls being all messed up and needed to be replaced!!

Actually the pistons are from the same block, just needs the rings replaced. Gonna buy from this week
Anyone know sites online where you can get them cheap?
