High lift cams in gsr w/ CTR pistons...
I have a '95 j-spec GSR with CTR pistons. I have plans in the future of complete headwork, port, polish, 3 angle valve job... everything! Well I guess my concern is running a high lift cam with the CTR's. The piston has the valve releifs in it, and I would assume it would be ok with just about any cam. But what about the cam gears. When you start retarding or advancing the cams. Will there be valve clearance issues. Also if anyone could rccomend a good head builder. My goal is to be around 225 whp in the end, and streetable. I know it can be done, and I am willing to drop the cash. I just need to know what is going to work??
I appreciate all replies..
Thanks

As long as you do not mill the head or deck the block, you should be fine. I know people are running that setup with TODA Spec C cams with no problems. I will be running a similar setup in a few weeks.

How's your car running now with those pistons? Any detonation? Just make sure you have enough valve clearance using the clay method to check. I'm thinkin bout goin with ctr pistons.
I think he must be running with a thicker head gasket or B16 head. GS-R running with CTR pistons CR will probably hit up to or pass 13:1 . I will suggest ppl to buy JDM ITR pistons (CR11.6:1 installed to GSR) more safer and durable.
High lift cams will collide w/ CTR pistons GUARANTEED ( unless u enlarge the pocket ) engine building steps....

note they built the VENOM CIVIC HEAD

I am running the stock honda "p72" head gasket (gsr gasket). I am not having detonation at all on 92 octane! I polished by combustion chambers before I put the motor back together. As For running ctr's in the gsr, I am happy with the result. I also have answered my own question by asking around. I know that ctr's will work with any aftermarket cam. But turning the cam gears is where you get into trouble. I asked the guys at superior racing developmant what they thaught, and Joe told me this...
We have two cars here with ctr pistons installed. One has jun cams, the other has crower's. Both cars are in the 12's all motor. They also are using the STOCK cam gears!! So there is the answer. Stock cam gears are the best when running high lift cams with ctr's.
Thanks for all of you replies,
