1990 Honda Accord EX sedan - Engine was switched?!?
This is so horrible, I do not know what to do. In short, I got screwed. The sudden onslaught of car troubles ended up costing approx. $5,000 on my 1990 Honda EX. Short on funds, the bills were in increments of $1,000+/- and each time, I felt it would be the end of problems and ultimately be less expensive than buying another car.
But it is now barely running and the transmission case is cracked! I have no doubt that the engine was switched because it was a shiny black color last year and now, it is gray. I have the engine number but I'm told there is no way to match it up to the VIN. My God, please tell me that there IS a way to verify this engine to the car - I am now unemployed and blah, blah, blah. (I will handle the mechanic - for now, only the engine #.)
Thanks!

For 5 grand you could have gotten a new car...
That's after the fact though. There should be a stamp on the block somewhere designating which engine it is...

There should be a plate contianing the vin (just like the one on your dash) on the rear of your engine block. If I am correct, it is to the left of the oil filter. It should be visible from under the car.
