Modify Apex'i piping!

I got apex'i piping which is 60mm (2.36" i believe). I'm thinking of removing the resonator it came with and just replacing it with a straight pipe. What size pipe should I go with? 2.25" or 2.5"? since those are the only sized the muffler shop carries.. remember, apexi's size is about 2.36"
If you have a WS, don't do it. I put a straight pipe in my system and it sounds like a piece of ****. Think about the nastiest sounding ricer Ford Festiva you have heard and my car sounded worse. I have a Mugen now so it's all good, but:
WS+Straight Pipe=
WS+Straight Pipe=
I have a WS with a testpipe and it doesnt sound bad. where is the resonator at? im thinking about welding on an N1 muffler because i think the ws is resticting top end pretty bad. is the ws and N1 piping the same though??

ok, heres the question: should i replace the resonator with a pipe that 2.25" or 2.5" if the diameter of the current piping is 2.36"?? basically, should i put a bigger or smaller size pipe to replace the resonator? smaller would bottle neck and bigger would PROBABLY MAYBE **** the backpressure up (i dont know?!?)?!?!?

Is there a reason why you want to replace the resonator? The Apex-i WS muffer is the major restriction in the system, not the resonator. But if you take out the resonator enjoy the new loud exhaust that you'll have. You'd want to keep the piping consistant thoughout the system if you choose to do it.
Then go right ahead, your exhaust is going to be a heck of a lot louder. Though I'd recommend while you're at it to replace your exhaust hangers since it sounds like your exhaust is sitting really low. If it's not the hangers problem reweld the connectors to the exhaust. The resonator on my Mugen is probably only 1/2" lower than the body

Damn, a simple question is turning into some kind of judging or interrogation. Anyways, the reason is because i scraped a hole into the Apex'i resonator so I got a GReddy resonator put on. The muffler shop that did the job did a fucked up *** job by putting the resonator on all crooked. Well, I found a buyer for the GReddy resonator and I dont mind the little increase in the sound because I have a long *** straight-thru muffler quieting my exhaust. So.. Can someone finally please answer my question?
if you remove the resonator the pitch of your exhaust is going to increase, along with the loudness. My friend with an 89 RX-7 did this, just had the cat and N1 end, was pretty loud and raspy.. after the cat was replaced with a test pipe.. uh... it's seriously unbearable when he really gets on it and is pretty raspy.
To answer your question straight out, use the same size or one up of your catalyctic converter ID. But measure your TRUE exhaust ID instead of guessing! Most of these bolt on exhausts use 60mm OD. My guess is that you're closer to 57mm ID so 2.25" piping.
