Not sure if i'm posting this in the right forum, but what the hey.......
I've been in search for a carbon fiber hood for my dc2, but i've also heard stories from my uncle who used to race, and other guys, about people getting in accidents and getting decapitated by the hood because it didnt buckle like a metal hood would. I know i read a post like this like 6 months ago, but cant find it. Does anyone know of a good cf hood that i dont have to worry about my head/passenger's head getting chopped off if i get in a wreck? Feedback would help my decision on purchasing a cf hood
thanks
Jay

i dont know bout that but i have heard that with cf hood, it is recommended that you get hood pins (i wouldnt want hood pins but its 4 a safety precaution) because at high enough speeds, there's a chance that the hood may lift n pop up cause its so light, and if that happens, its gonna block your view n etc. n if that happen, that would be pretty dangerous. so thats one thing i heard, i hope thats some useful info 4 u.
Yo the old one were. look at the inside of ur stock hood it has all the lines going all over the place so that it will be a teepee if u get in a hit. the cf hoods now like vis have the stock mounting thing so you dont need pins and also have reinforcement lines or whatever so if u get in an accident ur cool later. jus check on the inside of the hood an make sure it has the bars that go across

i kinda wanted one...still do...but i dont think it would look good on my black gsr....it would be cool on your white teg tho...i also think its urban legend...
Ryan<---has accepted the fact i would probably die in any accident that would cause this to happen

yes it will happen. this is why most tracks wont let you run of you have a c/f hood and 4 point harnesses. they suspect that in a front end crash you wont be able to duck a hood that is coming through your winshield at 100 + mph.
Its a gay rule...but think about it, if you hit something that hard to allow the hood smash through your a pillars, youre prolly gonna die anyways.

Haha your hood isnt going to go through your windshield, the new ones are built with OEM skeletons to bend or break. My friend rear ended someone, and it bend like a tent. It IS possible for this to happen, but same with your OEM hood, hell anything is possible. Everyone drive hoodless!
The older CF hoods that didnt have OEM latches could fly up, this happened to my friend, flew up and smashed the top of the windshield and the roof.

Maybe some POs CF hood will break.
Not FiberImages hoods.
And if that isn't good enough, look at the videos as the run the hood over, drop a wheel on it, ect.

The hood might be strong, but that ITR didn't hold up too well against that cinderblock.

wow back up isnt carbon fiber supposed to be stronger, yet lighter than metal?? thats what i was under the impression of, i mean heck if the goverment uses carbon fiber to make our stealth planes, then id use it as my hood
Yes, carbon fiber "can" be stronger than steel. Depending on quality, weave pattern, etc. Pure carbon fiber also snaps once it reaches it's breaking point, whereas steel will bend first.

this is true... when my Spoon CF front lip snagged the railroad tracks. it cracked the clear coat and put a small crack/rip on the bottom of it. held up good though.. it was anything else it woudl have been history
