Default My Very First Street Race

..and it didn't happen. I've had my car for about 6 months now, and I live pretty close to work, so I'd never been in this position before. Many people who have waved or honked have done so in moving traffic, but this morning, a riceboy in his Civic EX and his friend pulled up next to me on red, started honking and pointing wildly. Lowered his window, and said "You wanna go?". I wanted to do it so badly. I would have killed him. But I held back, I just waved him off, he took off, and I calmly drove away. And to be honest, it felt good. It's probably reading this board, and my many days at the track that's helped me mature. Now that I've passed this "test", I know I can never be pushed to street race. You wanna race, let's take it to the track.

Good work! It's definitely hard to resist, especially when it's some smarmy little ***** in a slow car. Actually, it's even harder to do when it's a middle-aged guy in an M3...trust me it can be done though.

Ugh, whatever man. You should have raced him. There is nothing better than feeling the power of not only putting your own life at risk, but the lives of others around you at risk! j/k

Nicely done. Some of the benefits of your decision:

- Lower insurance premiums
- Less of your money going to municipal/state/provincial/federal coffers
- More money for modifications, tack time, house, life, etc.
- Road safety
- Respect of your peers
- Appreciation for the real abilities of your car, possibly on a track
- Incentive to improve driver skill, as a result of TRUE competition.
- Less likelyhood of damage to your car
- Good example to the younger, impressionable folk.

nice move.

One fun thing to try... when they ask you to race...say yes and when it is time to take off... just rev up and let THEM blast off. Then you drive along like nothing is going on.
They look like idiots for blasting off for no reason.

I did the same thing, last night - some homie in a older altima with big heavy ugly-*** crome rims , he said "you wanna go - I'll smoke you" he peeled out and got pulled over about 100 feet down the road - sucker, save that sh*t for autoX or the strip

um and how old are you? I've been doing that since I was 16 years old...It's not a matter of maturity...it's a matter of your safety and other people's safety...

I guess I'm a little different from other young kids then...I have a very logical mind...I understand that what ever action I take will have a direct consequence to it, whether it be positive or negative.

I'm not flaming you or trying to say your not a good person, but all I just wanted to say is that you made it sound like it was so addictive...You control your actions...

I apologize if I offended you or anyone else...

PS. I've never had any type of ticket! I don't have to knock on wood because it doesn't depend on luck when you drive...it's up to YOU!

Well, I am 26, and if I had been 16, I probably would have raced him. Heck, if this had been about a year ago, I probably would have raced him also. I was just saying how the last 6 months have changed me big time, reading posts in this forum, and going to the track on a regular basis, I fully realize how stupid street racing is. Still, I always wondered what would happen if somebody wanted to race me, you just never know. I was able to keep my cool. I have the people in this forum and my days on the track to thank for being better educated about all this.

In that situation, I usually just race the guy to the speed limit or just a little above that. That way you don't break the law and you get to show him who's boss. However, I do respect your restraint.

Most states/municipalites have "speed contest" and "display of speed" laws, where, even if you race up to the speed limit without going over, they can ticket you for speeding. Its a BS law if you ask me but it's there.

Yeah, that's also true in Toronto but you just have to use common sense and not 'race' in large public streets or in front of a cop.
I used to get revved at alot driving downtown and so I started ignoring cars beside me at stops and then some drivers think I am cocky or that I just baby my car. You just can't win these days
