Default What intake solution should i choose....Please HELP!

I have a 88 hf crx with a d16z swap, Im in desperate need of some sort of intake.. The previous owner was a idiot and connected the cone filter directly where the pipe would normally connect for cai or short ram... So basically my car is getting No air or 400 degree air whatever, anyways Im thinking of my options right now... First i'de like to know is it possible to go with the intake for the 88 rather then the civic ex, or it will not connect? next i was trying to decide should i go with short ram or cai, i decided it would probably be easier to connect the sr. So now i have to decide should i purchase a injen short ram from a local shop for 125 and wait a week, or purchase the aluminum short ram pipe for 39.99 at autozone, buy some ceramic engine paint... Spray paint that short ram pipe with the ceramic paint to ensure coolness, and then buy a decent filter from a performance shop. Then go to home depot buy some duct tubing and navigate that to the filter from the front bumper... Will there be a dramatic difference from the "homemade" short ram, to the injen? thanks alot...

if you notice a difference, which i'm betting you wont, even on a dyno, it wont be much, save the money and have some fun doing it yourself. your setup will probably make more power, homemade parts rock.
