Oil Light's flashing, what's the deal?
I've had bad rings for a while now, w/ comp. #'s of ~160 across, but the motor seemed fine otherwise. It has ~110k on it. I've been keeping oil in it, and keeping an eye on my oil press. gauge. In the past 3 days, the oil light will slowly dim on, then it will start flashing and it won't stop until i turn off the car and restart it. The thing is, it even comes on when the pressure's up, when i'm revving. I'm gonna check the oil press. sending unit soon to see if there's trash in it, but a buddy of mine said it might be my main bearings are about to go. I was gonna replace them w/ my rings, but i don't wanna have to rush things....what could cause this?
Your oil pump just doesn't about to go, if it goes that means you broke the gear inside. It runs from the crank and is not electronic its mechanical.
Low oil level, which means low oil pressure which is not good for the motor. Check it and you might see that you need to add oil.

Generally the flashing oil light means 5 psi or LESS for the oil pressure. Regardless, you SHOULD NOT DRIVE the car if that light comes on. Check your oil level, if it's not that your oil pump is possibly dead and an unknown amount of damage is probably happening inside your head and block.

my friend was driving his honda civic with the light one.. was wondering maybe it's low on oil.. so he said i need an oilchange anyways...
my dad wanted to laugh, so he get a pepsi can... cut it in half.. and said watch this... i won't even fill it... the guy didn't beleive him...
we took off the bolt, and in amazement... he filled 2 centemeters of a can of pop... even put the can on a bench and waited for it to drip.. got to 4centermeters.. ahahaha...
and the guy drove 30miles for the oilchange going 70mph...
and they said honda's aren't reliable ahhahaa..

yeah i was just reading in my helms about the oil light, i don't remeber the exact pressures but if it drops below i think it 5 or 6 psi the light comes on and flashes until the ignition is shut off and then turned back on, even if your oil pres returns to a safe level. Just watch and make sure it doesn't go solid and stay solid cuz then ur f*ckd
Sometimes when you take a hard turn and you are low on oil, the oil may go to the side of the pan and it will run dry for a second. The light will come on and flash until you shut the ignition off.
Alright, i hate that my account for Ludeykrus is screwed and i can only post 5 posts per 24hours...ugh
ANYWAYS! It will flicker when I am at idle, i.e.-not driving in gear. Even when i rev, it will keep flickering, even though the pressure is up on my oil press. gauge. After 5-10 seconds, it starts flashing. I keep oil in it, so it's not low oil; i know what that's like b/c when I ran out one time, it came on and stayed on, no flashing. And it only does it like 2 times randomly a day. Didn't even do it today! Seems like if it were the pump, it would be more consistent. Also, I've had a low rough (around 400-500rpm) idle for a while now, but I've attributed it to the bad rings and maybe a throttle cable that needs to have the idle adjusted. Could this have anything to do with it?
Also, I've noticed that when my idle is low and rough, the oil press. is around 5-7 psi. When it was normal a while back and idled right, it was about 15-20 psi, this sound wrong?

Sounds like your oil pump is going kaput. Where are you getting the oil pressure reading from? Mine has never read below 12-15 while the car is on. Your low idle doesn't have anything to do with it.
I'm getting it off a gauge that's tee'd off the oil press. sending unit. I haven't had a chance to check it for trash yet. And I thought since the pump is mechanical, if the motor idled down too low it wouldn't flow enough oil.....oh well. If it's not trash in the OPSU, then guess I'm gonna have to tear it down and replace everything I've been meaning to get to!
