Default Hybrid oil weight

I was wondering what weight oil I should put in my 92 CX with my b20vtec?
I am in Phoenix.
Oil weights have always confused me.
I know we should run 5w-30 but with the high revs my car sees at the drag strip is there another weight I should use?

Also any thoughts on
5w-50
0w-30

I don't know if it matters but I am primarily interested in synthetics

Just a quickie on oil, as 'oil tech' is quite boring

The 'weight' (10w-30) of an oil is a rating on 'viscosity', which is an index on how the oil FLOWS at a certain temperature.. For example, 10w-30 (multi-viscosity oil) , "10" indexes how it flows at low temps and "30" at high temps..

In sunny Cali, or in your case, AZ, we really don't need the extra benefit of the "5" from 5W-30, as opposed to 10W-30.. They both perform EXACTLY the same (as tests show) under high temps.. But be aware of the 'range' that multi-viscosity oils have, since the polymers they use to get to this range can break down and burn into solids that may cause your rings to stick, etc. at high temps.. Wider-range oils are more prone to viscosity breakdown from the more polymers inside (10W-40/5W-30).. Bottom-line is that the lower the range the better the oil..

So what about SAE30 (30W-30) or 20W-50? Should I use these on my B-series?

SAE30 does cause harder starts on really cold days (boo-hoo! a low 45F degrees at MOST here, haha), so I don't use it.. Maybe if my car only saw the sunshine, I'd switch, but mornings suck..

20W-50 is much thicker, cold and hot.. "If it's thicker, it'll be better for my HIGH-REVVING BEAST MOTOR, right?" - no.. The nice tolerances and workmanship of our motors lets 30weight do exactly what we want our oil to do.. 50w will coat more and be thicker, but technically robs horsepower.. Most of all, it's just simply NOT needed (for us)..

Synthetics are so much better compared to dino/petroleum oil. They're more expensive and you'll have to decide if it's worth it..

Why Synth? **RIPPED** high temperature oxidation resistance - high film strength - very low tendency to form deposits - stable viscosity base - low temperature flow characteristics. **/RIPPED**

I personally use 10W-30 dino oil in my car.. I get free dino oil, i'm biased
