Default First gear slipping?

Is first gear expected to slip?

Drove my car pretty hard yesterday through the gears, but once I hit the higher revs in first...the rpms shot up!! and my speed wasnt increasing at the same rate!
It might have been that my wheels were slipping also...I have bald xgt's on...

So does first gear usually slip in the higher revs??

if its wet out , or if you have crappy tires , they might be slippin , other wise you might be showing signs of a worn out clutch, or a gettting there clutch . . . if the clutch is the case start saving up and dont get on it as much , waht kidna miles and what year is your car ? how many owners did your car have and were they older or younger drivers ( younger means it was more likely to be beaten on . . . hope that helped

ya it sounds like the clutch, and if you usually drive hard but havn't changed the clutch since '98 it might be time.

I think it may have just been my rubber, thing is I didnt hear any screeching. I havent experienced clutch splippage before, thats y i assume its my sh*t rubber. I could barely grab second also...

Clutch is from a 98 and I have 74k miles on it. Dont know the previous owner and what he did to my precious baby!!!

Cuz if I get on it in higher gears I dont have slippage...so thats why i was wondering if its typical for 1st gear to slip?

well since the lower gears are much shorter and have more pickup, you may not be feeling the clutch slipping. In high gears, its really just gears to cruise and stuff so you dont really get a lot of accelleration to begin with. when you decribed how the RPM's shoot up, sounds like a bad clutch to me. I wouldnt reccomend driving it until you get it replaced. if you need to drive it, take it easy or else I think you can mess your synchros up.
