Timing belt question and concern...
My bro has a 94 EX w/ 130k miles on it... his balance shaft retainer broke and all the oil leaked out (eek!)... the engine is fine, but the timing belt is drenched in oil...
Is the belt any good anymore?... or should he replace the dang thing?... i say to replace it and not worry about it.
Funny thing is that it was put back on it... my question is how far can he go b4 the thing snaps?! Or in what shape is the belt if it's drenched in oil?! Besides the obvious fact that he should change it ASAP!
Thx for the replies... he jus wanted to know...

Never chance it, always change the belt, it's MUCH cheaper than the possibility of a new engine, plus the oil, especially depending on how long it was in the engine can cause the belt to break down a lot faster. Just my .02, I'm not positive on the result of engine oil on the belt but can't imagine that it's good. Also I think there was a recall for that problem.
timing belt costs like $40
rebuilt head costs $800 and up
you do the math
replace the belt, don't even think of chancing it. and there is a recall on the balancer shaft seal.

recall expired in january and the kist cost $3.56 according to the receipt I have for the timing belt replacement on my car.
