Adjust vavles out of spec to get higher lift?
I was adjusting the valves yesterday and I had a thought
If I were to reduce the clearence by gapping the valves to less than reccomended....wouldn't it have similar results to aftermarket cams?
woudln't it create more lift and slightly longer duration?

Na, all you would do is end up damaging the valves themselves (burning), or hurting the performance, rather then helping it. Otherwise peeps would have been doing it long before now...
I've thought about the exact same thing... my guess is even though you might get more lift the duration will be about the same? I just put my intake clearance to the tightest acceptable spec. Ive also heard others also say if it's too tight the valves wont close all the way... not sure if thats true.
to do the valves .001 tighter wont make a difference as for performance you will most like end making the valves hang open and the car will run like ***. remember the clearances are there for cam and rocker arm heat expansion when they get hot.

it'll create higher lift alright, a higher lift on your wallet ... be careful with those adjustments, there's a tolerance for a reason, don;t go beyond ... read what teamgendai wrote ...
