I have a set of Mr5's that are in pretty good shape on the lip, but the 5 spokes are a tired silver with no bling. I was thinkn of shooting them (professionally) with a dark gunmetal metallic and leavin the lip polished. I am aware that this makes the rims "not so" genuine, but I am wondering if the fresh and newer look will really hurt resale of the genuine, older, tired look. What do you guys/gals think???

Thanx for any input....If anyone wants to do a photoshop of the rims in original and gunmetal style that would be super sick!!!

he said "profesionally done" jackass. i wouldnt do them in gunmetal but i would have them redone in the origanal color. this way they will look new and you will not hurt the value. or even just say **** it paint them purple and post them as "rare as **** mugen rims JDM" on ebay and some idiot will pay ten G's for them.

exactly. if the finish is lackluster, why not make em look good.

Not to step on your toes buddy...But I'm sick of people saying things like refinishing/repainting "lowers" the value of a 15 year old wheel. Lower it to whom? You? Value is placed in the owner of something, not the potential buyer, etc.

Should you paint them? Hell yes...Dare to be different...Push the envelope. And best of all, **** people off who covet bullshit like 15 year old wheels...And hold them in such high regard as the cross of Jesus Christ. I'd do it just for that alone.

it's not the color of the rim that makes the rim...it's the durability and styling

Well said! If they look bad, paint them to clean them up. All that matters is what you think of them. If you think they look bad and need to be refurbished then theres your answer

 

My friend had his MR5's redone in gray/gunmetal w/polished lip, looked really good. IM Gokooljapan or Gokooljeff and see if they have any pics of them.
