Default 4th Gen Lude SRS light

My SRS (supplemental restraint system) light has suddenly started going crazy on me. It has no pattern to it but blinks on and off constantly as Im driving now... its irriating as hell! Anyone had this prob, know how to fix it or what is causing it? Any suggestions besides cutting it? Thanks!!

Just wondering if you figured it out... mine is doing the same thing right now. I took the steering column apart and fiddled with the connector and it seems that the light goes on and off but I can’t really find the root of the problem... the connector is plugged in but its almost like something is loose in side causing the light to come on when I go over bumps.

check your ECU for a code and see what it says.

1) disconnect battery
2) remove trim panel around guage cluster
3) remove guage cluster
4) remove SRS light bulb
5) repoeat steps 1-3 in reverse order

can't do that on a 4th gen. It's slightly more complicated cause our dash is from a friggin space ship.

usually when the srs light flashes on and off. it means that the srs system is malfunctioning. taht there is some error in the system. i would pull out your chiltons manual and look through it to see if you can run a diagnosis of the problem

no its not flashing... its"flickering" there is not pattern to it and I know that the harness is the problem I just dont know why. if I hit the steering column with with my fist it will shut off until I got over the next bump.... I'm going to pull it apart this weekend and see if I can yank the bulb

oh and I do have a helms manual, its no help right now

I'd get into the system itself.

Check the connections on the srs computer (behind teh radio with all the yellow wire loom coming off of it)

check the steering wheel connections. Pull the bag out (you'll need a torx set) and check the connection on it.

if it truely is loose, why risk having the bag get a whack signal and blow up in your face?

reset it.... there is a sequence to do it... look at All Data or Michell (sp?) they have step by step process.

There is also an SRS relay in the fuse box. Not sure if this has a relationship with your prob.
