Break-in period before hitting the track??
Hello everyone -
I have an opportunity to do some laps on a local track (Nelson Ledges) this weekend. I just got my GSR two weeks ago, however, and I have only 900 miles on it.
My intent is not to set any lap times - I just want to try it for the experience. Will this be bad for my car since it's so new? I'm assuming I'll take some life off the tires/brakes, think it will be bad for anything else?
Also - any ideas how to mount a vid cam in a GSR?

OMG your tires will not be at their best.
especially stock michelins.... OH NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
well, at full tread depth the tires will feel weak, kinda woosy and a bit sloppy... too bad, you'll wish you had a set of track tims/tires.
You will take a big bite off of their lifespan as well if you really push the car hard thru corners... I've seen bad scalloping/treadwear on new tires at the track.
Try to brake hard then float it gently thru corners, never push thru 'em, you'll double the wear on the tires by pushing on 'em.
As far as the motor, just try to avoid a full hour above 6000rpms, like most track days are spent... be nice to your motor 'most' of the time.
Have fun tho, enjoy!

900 miles... just drive around for another week... get another hundred... get her to 1k... change the oil... and ENJOY the car.
Make sure all your fluids are in check, the tire pressure is good... and throw the car around like it was supposed to be. Yup, he's right the tire life will show some wear... but, it's only tires!

hey Markus,
if i were you i would not listen to any of these people. there is no set point on weither the engine is flly broken in. i would wait until about 5000 miles before i drive a new car really hard, like for auto crossing. for quarter mile between 2000 and 3000 would be a good break in period. tell me what kind of "track" youre wanting to test youre car. if its like auto crossing with a lot of high revving straights and turns wait more than 1000 miles. if you look in your manual it may say something like 1000 miles for the engine to break in, but that only means its broken in enough to drive a bit harder and not revving youre engine before redline for a long time frame. jus wait till about 5000 miles, but till then you can drive youre car harder than when it was new, jus dont keep the revs high for a long time.
