im thinking about taking my amp out of my hatch and putting it underneath the passenger seat. my friend told me that there is metal under the carpet and it can short out very easily. is this true?
edit-its only a tiny *** 200 watt amp, it does not have a fan or anything like that to cool it down.

Hit your friend, metal under the seat has nothing to do with your amp shorting out. Just make sure all of your connections are secure. When mounting an amp under your seat, you must take measures to prevent overhearing. There should be atleast 1" of free space, between the amp and anything else. Good luck.
I have two large amps under the seats, theres only about 1cm of space between seat and amp and I've had no overheating problems.
Go ahead with it, it rekon it's a great place; harder to steal and you need shorter RCA's

You don't have to do anything but it's a good plan to screw right through the floor.
The good part of this is that it will mean the seat has to be taken off to remove the amp.
The bad part is if you have an accident and the chassis flexes it may break the heat sink.

good luck so far, i have a blaupunkt now and its pretty stable

Teg seats are so low, that they basically sit ontop of the amp. With the hump in front, there is no way the amp is going forward if I hit something at 30. A future project is to move it to the back of the car with my other amp.
I have never had a problem with the amp under my seat over heating. It is normally cool to the touch. YMMV, I once had a pioneer under the seat of a mustang. It would get very hot.

So if a thief wants it he just grabs it and pulls? thats crazy!
The floor on the right side under my seat has 12 holes from 3 different amps, you can just fill them up with silicone.
The Alpine amps under my seats get REALLY hot, you can't touch them and they started to melt my rear floor mats. Thats just the way those Alpine amps are though.

Fair enough, my car isn't really worth that much
I ground the heads down on the screws holding my amp so no thief is going anywhere with my amp without an angle grinder.

Or a big screwdriver. Just pry the thing up. If someone wants it you are not going to stop them from getting it. They don't care about your car they will destroy what they have to, to get what they want. I've seen nice big holes cut in bumpers dashes kicked in all kinds of crazy sh**.

They wont pry up without destroying the amp, if the destroy the amp i'll be pissed but it's better than them getting it.
Also, I think theives in NZ tend to be some munter with a rock rather than an intelligent guy with tools.

I have my amp screwed through the floor under my passenger seats. The gsr seats ride right on top of the amp though. But everything still works.
