Default 1981 Civic Hatch swap questions....

Yeah yeah I know this isn't a CRX ar an EF but there is no forum for this gen that I saw. Ok so here it goes, I am thinking of turning an '81 Hatchback into the ultimate sleeper. You are probably thinking this guy is a moron and it isn't worth the time, well I have a lot of time and nothing better to do. Does anyone know of an engine that would fit in this? Is it the same mounts as a D series engine? How difficult would it be to put a D series or a B series into it? Does anyone know of a running engine for sale that would bolt up into this? I would really appreciate all of the help that you guys can give me. This car is insanely light weight, if I remember correctly it weighs 1600lbs with a full tank and a bunch of crap in it.

It seems like a really cool project but I doubt you will find anyone with any type of experiance with this swap. First break out a tape and start measuring the engine compartment. width, length, ground to under hood clearance, just measure everything. Then goto a junk yard where you can walk around and measure other cars. I would find someone that can weld (a professional that can also fab) and comission him to help you with this swap. If I could find an older rust free civic I would jump at the chance of doing this kind of project. Goodluck

Thanks for the help, I have to look around a little more and try to find out more facts about it. Does anyone know what series-model this would be considered? For instance, DA, EK, EG, ect.

i remember seeing an old civic wagon at the sac raceway a couple years ago...he had a d16z in it at first, then turboe'd, he ran 13's in that car, but i forgot what setup he had when he ran it with...i think a d-series will put down monster times and not be as complicated as b-series, then again, if you DO have time then k24 that baby! haha
