i was wondering is there is a better year S2000 to buy or have they been the same since introduced?

 

They got better in 2002. Glass rear window, better door speakers/tweeters. My favorite is White with Red interior.

but they are the same other wise? all same performance numbers and all 6sp? all HID?

(thinking i could get a 2000 if the same and live with plastic back window then buy a hard top with money saved buying older)

also is the top electric power or people power?

 

2002+ suspention is tuned slightly softer than 00 and 01 but that acutally resulted in better handeling

 

if i could do it all over again, i'd get another 2001.

 

Another difference I saw in the S2KI.com forum was the 3rd brakelight and possibly the ECU and arm rest and shiftboots in leather and the clock and a more refined audio system.

the nice rings around the taillights

I believe the syncros on 1st and 2nd gear changed (as in added an extra one I *think*) in 02+ Also if your buying an older one gotta make sure its had all the TSB's done, the grind tsb, spark plug tsb come to mind, but I know there are others (I have an '03 so its not like I had to check )

I would go with the 02+, because of the glass window alone, but hey thats me

 

That's also what S2KI pointed out, the gears are quieter between shifts so they messed with the syncros.

2002: A glass pane with defroster took the place of the prior plastic rear window in the Honda roadster's power-operated soft top. The six-speed gearbox was reworked in an effort to provide smoother, quieter shifts. The interior gained extra aluminum trim and a restyled console, and a leather-wrapped gearshift **** replaced the previous alloy piece. Revised taillights held chrome rings. Suzuka Blue joined the color palette, and the stereo system gained power.

2002 0-60 = 6.1 Secs

2000 Braking Distance = 116ft
2002 Braking Distance = 121ft

Yes the 2002s have shown to have +5whp over previous years, proven by honda-techers and s2ki people. It is believed the NEWER ecu is the reason for this.

I'm still getting the 2000 cuz the first year Hondas are always the best, just like my 93 vtec lude.. hehe
