I have the tires and I am just curious as to what they weigh. I also have a friend that is considering them after buying some light weight rims and doesnt want to stick a tire on the rim that is gonna make him as heavy as he was with the stock rims (kinda defeats the pupose of the new rims).

I have Kumho supra 712 205/50/15's, but any size weight would give me an idea as long as they are the same tire...

I assume that a bigger tire will weigh more, such as a 205/45/16. Although the sidewall height is less, so wouldn't it be lighter?

Does anyone know how much the 16" size weighs for comparison?

thanks.....but I think we were interested in finding something a little more accurate and reliable than weight given from a bathroom scale. I am guessing that if the 205/50/15 weighs around 20 pounds, the 205/45/16 will be about 1/2 pound lighter, since this seems to be the trend with other tire companies' tires (the only confirmed weights I have are from Dunlop and Toyo)...

It would still be interesting to find the precise weights for Kumho tires in 15, 16 and 17" sizes..

 

My Kumho 205.45.16 on my rota c8 weighs 35lbs on a bathroom scale. The C8 is already 16lbs which leaves us with 19lbs for the tires and air. Not the most accurate weight but at least you have an idea.

 

I just got a response back from Kumho. I asked them for a weight of the 205/45/16 size, and they gave me a one-word answer as a response: 21 pounds.
Hmm....not too good considering that three other major tire brands in that size run on average almost 3 pounds lighter per tire (dunlop SP9000, Pirelli P7000 and Toyo Proxes T1-S).

 

Actually i think 21 lbs is alright.. all the other tires you listed cost a fortune! Especially the SP9000s!

 

here are the tire weights in a 205/45/16 if you guys are interested :

dunlop sp9000: 17.8
Toyo Proxes T1-s: 18.1
Kumho Ecsta supra: 21
Pirelli P7000: 18.6
Yokohama A520: 19.84

I just weighed my 205/50/15 today. It was 18lbs on the mark.

 

hmm....Aj, what kind of scale did you use? You weighed the tire alone, not the wheel too? I'm guessing that you weighed both together and subtracted the weight of the wheel. Also, the weight could be lighter if you've driven on the tires a bit.
Interesting that there would be a 3 pound difference between two different sizes of the same tire (and the heavier one (16") should actually come out lighter than the other(15"))..

 

Anyone have the weight of a 205/50/15 Toyo T1-S? These ARE my next tires afer my 712's are toast. Thanks.

Tire weight is often overlooked in terms of performance.

Per the data for the 205 45 16 tires, they can vary as much as 3 lbs! If you spent a lot of extra money on wheels that were 3 lbs lighter (say 12 lbs vs 15 lbs), then got tires that were 3 lbs heavier, it would probably cancel a lot of the benefit.

In addition, since the tire is at the extreme outside of the wheel/tire combo, it should have a large affect on rotational inertia.

When I went to get tires for GG 2 years ago, I wanted to find the lightest possible tire. I went with the Dunlop SP 9000 in 205 50 15 for the stock wheels. It's difficult to find tire weight data anywhere! Dunlop is the only site that I could find with weights...

I had heard that Pirelli were also light, and per the data above, that seems correct.

IMHO, the SP9000 don't grip that great in the dry. They are godlike in the wet though. This correlates to reviews others have provided (such as on TireRack.com). I go them mostly for weight considerations. The SP8000 were reviewed to actually be better in the dry, but they were about 1 lbs heavier for the same size! Interesting that even within the same brand the weight would vary that much. Of course, the weight of the tires changes as it wears and whatnot...

The Pirellis would save weight and I don't think they are that spendy.

I agree with you completely. You share the same exact view as me regarding tire weight, etc..

MmmVTEC, the T1-S in 205/50/15 is pretty lightweight: 18.5 lbs
The Toyo site has all the tire weights listed just as the Dunlop site does (when a company is honest and informative like this on their product, I seem to give them more credibility)..

No, I weighed it alone on a shipping scale. The tires were brand spankin new, still had the tags on it. We weighed the combo together after the tires were mounted and balanced and it came to 31 lbs.

Maybe the reason the 16" tire was lighter than the 15" was the fact that there's less material on the 16" 40 series than on the 15" 50 series.

I know it seems impossible, but set the tires next to eachother, and compare them. You'll see what I mean.

hmm...no I meant that it seems weird that your 15" tire is heavier than the reported 16" size. I can understand why the 205/45/16 would be lighter since it has less sidewall and just more air space inside. But the point is, you show the 205/50/15 weighing 18 lbs while Kumho claims that their 205/45/16 weighs 21 lbs.... Also, I have confirmed weights from Dunlop and Toyo and the 16" size weighed on average 3/4 pounds less than the 15" size. Kumho seems to be the oddball if their 16" size weighs a whole 3 pounds more than the 15" size. Something just doesn't seem right here...
So if the combo weighed 31.0 pounds exactly, this means that your wheels are 13.0 pounds...are you sure on the weight of your rims alone?

 

Yep, rims weigh 12.5lbs each.
