i want a prelude
i've been looking to get a new car because my jetta keeps breaking. i need something reliable to drive from mass to chicago a few times a year.
i found this ad in my local paper:
1987 HONDA: Prelude, 51K, excellent running condition, good tires, standard, $1000
any comments? i don't know anything about preludes, but 51k seems like really low miles so i bet its in good condition. and its only $1000!

Yep. 87 is 2nd gen. I would definitely pick it up for a commuter. Especially if it is fuel injected. That engine is actually pretty decent. Probably is carburated though if they did not list it as an Si. Probably has a bit of rust but if it runs well what do you have to lose? Hell, I paid $1000 for the 75 Civic CVCC I used to have.

i had a 2nd gen a while back and i can tell you they are great cars. very reliable and easy to work on (except for the hood that opens the wrong way
).
price sounds good if that mileage is correct and if it doesn't need any work.
but i wouldn't pass on it if it's in good shape. i doubt you'll be able to find a more reliable beater for that cheap.
good luck

Buy my car, although i just blew my motor last night, i'll get rid of the car for 800$. And you could get a replacement motor for 650. So for 2 grand you could have a solid car. Im asking 800 for the car because it has many after market parts. Email me if you're interested. E-mail address is in my bio.
Oh yeah... Black, 90 Si, 138k- 5 speed

Whats up, I live in Rockland County, NY about 30 min outside NYC. The car still runs but I'm running on 3 cylinders. Car has a lot of new parts, I'd have to look through my receipts to list them all. Car is lowered 1 1/2", with H & R springs and tokico struts. I also have GSR wheels, (painted black, professionally) and new Yokohama AVS ES100's tires (195/50/15) with approximately 5K miles. Car also has a custom exhaust 2 1/2. So Email me if you are interested.
