Painting over chipped valve cover
My valve cover is chipped, the stock red paint is chipping off. How should I go about painting it a different color? Should I sit here chipping away at it for a couple of hours or sand it down or what? thanks guys
how are you going to prep the chipped valve cover for paint? I was planning on just painting right over the red, but there would be little grooves in the new paint..

I'm going to talk to my buddy civickid77. I remember him telling me about this aircraft paint stripper that he read will take the old paint right off the valve cover. You definitely want to get all the red off the valve cover before adding the new coat.

aircraft(paint)stripper can be found at pep boy, autozone, etc
with an airplane on the spray car, white and blue background.
homedepot also have paint stripper but i perfer my can of airplane stripper
from autozone. 4.99+tax
when you stripp your typeR VC, the vc will be smooth aluminun, go for it if that's what you want.

get the paint remover and spray it on and let it sit for like 10-20 minutes, then hose it off, you will have to do it again because not all of the paint will come off the first time, then what ever color you decide to paint it put some grease or vasiloline (sp?) on the bolt holes and lettering so after the paint completly dries you can use a knife to scrape the paint form those areas. here is some of my work.
wow that looks great. I was planning on using just tape for the bolts and letters. i'll try to vasoline first though. thanks
its vht wrinkle red paint. it is good for about 400 degrees and i think thats good enough because i have one on my car for over 1 year and it still looks new.
