Compression....whats it done for you lately?
So Im thinking about putting a milled, p&p a6 head on my sohc ZC block. With a thin gasket Im shooting for about 12:1 compression. My question is this...
Is raising compression that high worth it?
By doing so you take added risks, and the engine becomes (basically) a timebomb. Are the gains worth it? And what kind of gains would you be looking at on a SOHC? Considering that its milled and p&p with a nice cam, should I use a thicker gasket and run on the safer side (around 10+ or so)?
Thanks in advance.

Edit: also when a head is milled does it only change the combustion chamber volume?

as long as you are running good enough gas and your tuning it spot on you will not have a problem running high Compression. and yes it will make a big difference
Just make sure you have enough fuel to compensate for the increase compression and extra air! ECU tuning is a vital element for a strong motor.
