Default timing at 11 WTF

i went to go advance my timing today so i figured it be at 16 stock (1992 GSR)
and it was at 11 i always ran the car on 93 octane but it did seem pretty slow in the low end but i was used to non vtec where power hits early so i just figured this from the torqueless b17

timing is now at 18 and the car is much faster and respnsive

the guy who owned this car b4 me was a good guy and he kept the car in mint so WTF...any damage happen from this....

thanks

Just to make sure, you did have the engine at normal operating temperature, and the diagnostic connector jumped when you checked and set the timing, correct?

Only thing I can think of is that at 11 deg. BTDC, the fuel might not have been burning completely (not sure if that would happen or not). Check your plugs to make sure they aren't fouled, you might need to replace them.
