Strut assembly question...
i'm going to be putting in my KYB AGX and H&R OE combo sometime this week, however I have a question. When I assemble the strut assembly, how far do i tighten down that lock bolt on the top of the shock? also, with the AGX's, since at the top of the shock is where u adjust them, where would I put an allen key in like ordinary shocks?
Be careful when you tighten it, I snapped the threads on one while tightening it and had to buy a new one. Tighten it enough to where you feel it is plenty snug but not too tight where the rubber is starting to look flattened. There should be torque specs that come along with it.
It comes with a little adjuster that goes into the top threads, like in the pic below. Mine are tokico illumina's but most adjustable shocks use the same method.

Just tighten the nut down until it stops. I believe there's a metal sleeve in there that won't allow the nut to go down too far. The adjustment screw... does it come out? I know that my illuminas have the adjustment on top of the strut, but it comes out to reveal an allen wrench hole.
I'm not sure how much you tighten the bolt, (I just tightened it until it felt right).
Instead of an allen wrench though, the threads are cut out of top of the kyb's so you can use a wrench

hmmm alright... cause a buddy of mine says u don't tighten it down that much... u guys know which bolt i'm talking about right?
this one:
like, if you keep tightening this nut, won't u just keep compressing the spring?

Tighten it down some when you put the assembly together, then after it's in the car you can tighten it with a torque wrench. My Konis are hex-shaped at the top of the threads where the adjustor is, I guess the KYB's are the same way.

No, there is a little metal rod that goes around the shock shaft that rests on a little washer so it is pressing against that once the rubber has been compressed too much. Then the threads snap or become stripped. Be careful, tighten it until you feel it isn't going anywhere. Don't go nuts on it.

I'm actually going to be doing a AGX install tomorrow, I'll tell you if I run across anything.
